A belated review from July 2019...
From the outset, Tim promptly dealt with the booking and our requirements, carefully checking our abilities and what we wanted from the day.
Bang-on time at the pick-up, then onto the start at the Base Station. Quite simply, he provided what we had asked for - a good walk in the Cairngorms, off the beaten track in places, quietly informative throughout. He is happy to share his knowledge without it coming across as a lecture and maintains a flexible approach to the route throughout.
Tim is actually unobtrusive as a guide; he allows you the time & space to appreciate what is around you; walks with you rather than leads, which resulted in a very enjoyable, relaxing (and tiring!) day.

I spent a wonderful day with Tim and Moray in the Caringorms. Tim is highly knowledgeable and customized the route to my abilities. Being a flatlander I wasn't expecting to be able to accomplish much but to my absolute astonishment I made it to the top of Meall a'Bhuachaille (with plenty of stops to catch my breath).
Tim provided a map of our route along with pictures that he took after our hike.
I highly recommend Tim if you want to hike the Cairngorms. And make sure to ask for Moray to join you!

I cannot speak highly enough of Tim. He arranged a bespoke day tour to accommodate our varied group and was friendly, flexible and very knowledgeable. He changed the route to allow for changes in weather and made sure that everyone was comfortable and able at all times. I urge anyone looking for a day tour or longer to contact him before looking anywhere else. A fantastic day which was the highlight of our trip. Thank you, Tim!

We can't say enough good things about Tim! He planned the perfect hike for our family and we had an amazing day. He is very knowledgeable and it was wonderful to enjoy the beauty of the Cairngorms without worrying about getting lost. If we are ever up that way again, we would absolutely book with Tim again for another adventure.

I booked a trip with Tim from Out in the Hills knowing I wanted to experience some off-the-beaten-path hiking in Scotland. His knowledge of the Cairngorms, clear bent towards self-selected challenge and safe navigation, and general joy for the wilds of Scotland combined to make this an exceptional day. Every step of the way, Tim honored my initial request, knew that I wasn't there to bag a Munro (though we happily did two) and shared his local knowledge warmly and willingly. I got the sense that Tim could take any hiker or group of explorers and create a safe, positive experience to meet their needs.
I have every intention of heading back to Scotland and when I do will be sure to call Tim -- we have a few more peaks to climb!

Had a great time walking through the high ground of Ben Macdui and Loch Avon with Tim. He was good company and passed on alot of knowledge about navigating, hiking, and the Highlands. Very accommodating, picking me up from my hotel on day one and then posting a camera lens I forgot in his car! Would recommend!

Returned to Scotland specifically to walk in the Cairngorms again - hoping for a decent ascent and half-tidy weather. Having booked the whole day out with Tim, he was able to suggest we tackle Ben Macdui, as the forecast; occasional showers which may be persistent (!) still seemed promising... We therefore set off hoping for far-reaching views from time-to-time. Tim's knowledge and expertise meant I had a super day climbing the second highest mountain in Great Britain without a care in the world! I walked at my own pace, never once felt hurried. Encountered interesting wildlife (spotted by eagle-eyed Tim..) multiple weather experiences, a crunchy walk through some snow, with the sun showing at the summit revealing a majestic panorama! Tim's dog, Moray accompanied us for his 50th ascent up Ben Macdui - wow! Tim took expert care of the photography too - evidence for me of an absolutely super walk - many thanks to Tim for making my day just perfect. Out in the Hills with professional mountain guide, Tim Hall - recommended, absolutely!

I have just had two great days out with Tim and Moray. I asked for challenging- I got it! Tim’s detailed knowledge of the area and skills in route planning with options in case of bad weather or other difficulties made me feel confident to push through several boundaries that would have limited me if I was alone. He was perfect for me, offering information and advice when appropriate, but allowing me to enjoy the peace and wonder of the environment.
Excellent communications both before and afterwards, with the bonus of receiving photos and route plans less than 24 hours later, allowing me to share my adventures (in a very small way) with family & friends.
I now plan to join Tim for a 2/3 day trek, complete with wild camping

Tim was excellent from the first communication. We are a couple with mixed abilities and he was able to get us a challenging walk that satisfied my husbands need for adventure and my slower pace.
His dog Muray is an added bonus!
We enjoyed his information about the area and sincere hospitality.
Most importantly he is thoroughly knowledgeable about the environment in which he works. I would never attempt a walk in the Cairngorms with out him!
