This was a great afternoon trip. It is one of the more unusual castles I've seen in Scotland. It's very well maintained and lots of fun for kids, with 4 different stairs to go up and down leading to different rooms. Interesting history and great views from the top!!
Also you can wander the orchard and help yourself to fruit, which was really cool. Had a picnic there with freshly picked apples.

Had no idea that this castle existed till last year. It is a 16th century mansion house but was known as the "party castle"! You explore the castle in your own time and can go onto the high battlements which provide a great view.There is a well maintained orchard. Worth a visit.

I really enjoyed looking round here, as did my kids. It will only take less than an hour to go round. But definitely worth going round

Understated castle, presented in a very muted way. Beautiful and impressive. Not crowded unlike most castles. Imopressive.

A great experience . We had a wonderful time exploring this castle. Alison was very friendly and enthusiastic about her job and was only too happy to answer our questions. Well worth a visit.

Lovely little castle which we never knew existed. Good for kids to run around and explore. Nice garden to walk around. Ideal for a picnic.

We have lived in Perth for many years but this was our first visit. More fool us as it is a lovely building in a beautiful setting. The external fabric is in good condition and although mid floors are in part missing it is easy to picture what it must have been like as an elegant home.
The experience is enhanced by having access on to the roof parapet to enjoy the beautiful views.
The manageress is very helpful and friendly. She is happy to answer questions and give a bit more insight to the castle.
The grounds are pleasant to walk round with an orchard but sadly there is no remnants of what had been a formal garden.
Their are sign boards around the castle which help explain its history and guide books can be purchased.
There is no tearoom but soft drinks and limited snacks can be purchased.

Such a lovely castle. It was only £6 and we had complete freedom to roam the castle. The views were lovely and the rooms were so neat! They even allow access to the roof! The attendant was so helpful and pleasant. Highly recommend for anyone!

How large is Rhynd? What is the closest airport?

Rhynd is very small not even a village! and you would be at least 1 hr from Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Airport is closest but accessing the location requires a car
Perth is the closest main centre for accommodation etc.

The castle is open during the summer months only. It's open daily, but seems to close for lunch most days. When we were there, lunch was 1-2pm. You can wander round the grounds while it's closed though. There are picnic benches and good views of the River Tay.

No. a taxi from perth centre would be your best bet. not sure if village of rhynd is served by any bus. It's only three quarters of a mile from rhynd village itself. so easily walkable. There are definitely buses from perth centre to road end but it is 3 miles from there. Could be a nice walk there - downhill mainly. Then taxi back to Perth.
