Was in the Garden of Remembrance when I came across this statue of the story of Children of Lir. The story comes from an Irish myth about 4 children who were turned into swans by their evil stepmother. They are forced to live in that form for 900 years, before regaining their human form., but sadly as three very old men, and an old woman. Sensing that the children were close to death, the monk who found them, baptised them and (according to Christology) allow them to ascend heaven. The rebirth of the children provides an allegory to the the rebirth of Ireland after hundreds of years of English occupation.

This is a lovely place to sit and rest while seeing Dublin, and it has a rich history. There's the myth it depicts beautifully and the Irish history it commemorates. And there's water, sculpture and trees, right near the middle of the city.

This is a lovely monument and there is a very moving story behind it, the park is very well kept, however be aware that it is a gated park and may be locked so you may not be able to enter.

Was passing by here today and decided to go in sit down read my paper and drink my coffee what a lovely place to go early morning lovely gardens and then the children of Lir if your in Dublin well wort a visit the pictures don’t do it justice

The park was beautiful and the statue was visible from outside the gate. I love the legend and was excited to see the statue, but sadly the gates were locked at 6pm and we could not go into the park and get a closer look.

Children of Lir is in memory of all Irish who died for the motherland. For this reason, this park is suggestive. It is also located in Dublin city centre, so it is easily reachable. It is worthy a visit if you are in Dublin.
