Booked our tickets through Blasket Islands Tour. Lovely boat ride guide was very informed. Time to walk around the Blasket island was perfect

Visited the main island in the delightful august summer sunshine and availed of the free opw tour which was very insightful and educational. Definitely recommend it on a sunny day.
Tips ;
Bring warm clothes even if there’s no rain forecast
The restaurant / coffee shop was closed so bring food and water supplies with you
Island pathways require a good level of fitness and bring hood walking shoes - last part of trip is done in a small boat so again a certain level of fitness is required to get to your destination
Book ahead as places on the various boats that bring you to the island are limited - I used blasketferry.ie and the trip was very efficient and safe

Great trip. On the island there was a free guided tour by the OPW. We had Tomas. Probably the most enjoyable and rivetting guide that I have ever had. We will be lost when guys like this go. He had a personal interest and was off the islands.

We visited Great Blasket Island on a sunny day with calm seas. We took the guided walking tour and learned a little history of the island and it’s former residents. There were a large group of seals on the beach and plenty of sheep and even donkeys nearby. The views from everywhere were spectacular.

We hadn’t intended to visit the Blasket Island Visitors Center but we got lost trying to find the Dunquin Pier. It didn’t matter in the end though as we really enjoyed our visit and that’s saying something as a person who generally isn’t into “that sort of thing “. The center is clean, interesting and has quite a few amenities.

So booked with Billy and Alice.....stayed in peig sayers last home on the island. So chilled out. Relaxing. Such beauty from half door every day unimaginable. Da sounds from da wildlife....da seals on tra bhan....da night screeching....almost human of the shearwaters.....no creature comforts mind....just gas hob. One solar light. Almost living peig and al da islanders lives...... sum rabbits sheep and two donkeys roam free. And da little cafe and da loveliest couple Gordon and leslie..... such kind lovely couple. Da best. So get booking for dat away from it all beautiful island break....

We have had a boattrip around Blasket Island. It tooks 3 hours and we saw a lot of fishes, wales,seals and seabirds.
It is a must have seen. From Dingle or Dunquin.

Beautiful island with a lot of history. Includes a guided tour if required, about 45 minutes long, very knowledgeable guide. A lot of ruins, but one cottage has been done up to view.
Small cafe and toilets.
Beautiful beach , which has a seal colony of around 2000 . I was lucky enough to see about 200 lying on the beach.
Short 20 min ferry ride out to the island.

Such a memorable day spent on the island today. The crew were so friendly and professional, safely getting us on and off the boat via a dingy. Easy to book in advance and we were kept updated on sailing conditions. Price includes a fascinating short tour on land to learn about the history of the islanders. Ate our sandwiches on the beach with the seals and the seabirds. Beautiful.

We thought the shorter 20-minute trip on the ferry from Dunquin sounded more appealing than the longer trips from Dingle or Ventry. We were lucky to have a sunny day and a smooth crossing. They gave us three hours on the island, which was plenty of time to listen to the interpreter’s history talks, wade in the water at the beach (with seals watching us from the water), get tea and scones at the café, and take a hike up to get the views. Highly recommend, one of the favorite things we did in Ireland!

Hello. How far in advance is it necessary to book one or two night stay in the summer months? Also, is there somewhere on the mainland we could store luggage so as not to have to bring suitcases out? (I’m thinking we would pack a light backpack and leave the rest behind.) there will be 4 of us. Thank you!

Yes, if you are camping with your own gear, I always give people my own personal number in case of emergencies. I live just next to where the ferry departs at Dunquin pier. We also have contact with the owners of the hostel on the island, they stay on the island with their guests and also own their own vessel which they keep island side. Our ferry is a twenty minute trip across and everyone wears life jackets for the crossing. Safety is number one on our boat along with making sure everyone enjoys the journey. Hope this helps!
