Short Version: From the initial building of the trip itinerary and sign up process to being delivered back to the airport at the end of our trip was a completely amazing journey. Highly recommend using Small Escorted Tours Of Ireland for your Ireland experience. Our primary driver Maurice literally made the trip multitudes better than what we would've experienced on our own.
Longer Version: We (3 couples) landed in Dublin with high hopes but not knowing what to expect. Brian was there waiting on us, loaded us up and we're on our way. As we entered town, Brian started pointing out key buildings, areas, things to do as well as answering what you might term "typical tourist" questions. Brooks Hotel was our first boarding spot and the two nights there were quite nice. While in Dublin, if you haven't experienced the Guinness storehouse tour it's a must see whether you like Guinness or not. Another option is the Teeling Distillery tour if whiskey is more your thing.
A couple days later we met our driver Maurice and our lives will never be the same (in the best way, of course). His knowledge of the region, areas of intrigue and spots we'd have never found or looked to find on our own was just thoroughly amazing. Our first stop was Kilkenny Castle for a quick romp inside (we missed the guided tour, but it was still worth the stop). If you think you'd like to stop in here, plan a few hours so you can also do some basic wandering through the town. Back in the car onto Waterford where half of us did the Waterford Crystal tour (I did not) and the other half popped into The Ginger Man for lunch and a pint (if they have the Bacon and Cabbage special, I highly recommend it). Our final stop for the day was Kinsale where we boarded a couple nights at Trident Hotel (beautiful views over the bay from the room). Before dropping us at the hotel in Kinsale, Maurice took us across the inlet to a 911 Remembrance Orchard (Google - 911 Memorial Kinsale, Ireland for more information). This wasn't on our list, nor did we have any clue it existed, but as all of us were Americans Maurice thought we'd like to see it and of course, we did. It was very difficult not to get emotional here. As we were arriving, Maurice provided us with the history of the location and the story behind the nurse who created it (please review the website for more details). Everywhere we would drive, even if we didn't stop, Maurice was a talking, breathing Google with information pouring out of him.
Next morning Maurice drove us to Midleton so we could tour the Jameson Distillery there (highly recommended). BUT, of course, there was a bit of American history there that again, we had no idea existed. A monument to the Choctaw Native Americans (google - Kindred Spirits: Choctaw Native American Monument). There's an awesome story behind it, but I'll let you research that as I'm barely half way through the review. We were able to wander Kinsale that evening, I suggest The Spaniard but you really can't go wrong with any of the pubs there. On our fifth day in Ireland we headed towards Galway City, but with a few pit stops: Cliffs of Moher, The Burren (Oughtdarra, Co. Clare, Ireland - as there are a few places with the name Burren in them), Town of Doolin for lunch and a pint at McGann's Pub (best Irish Beef Stew all week). If you are on the west side of Ireland, these are must visit locations. On we go to Galway City for a couple nights at the Harbour Hotel. Again as we entered town and made our way to the hotel, Maurice educated us about the area and pointed out different areas of historical reference (and of course where the best pubs were located). The following day, two of us played a round of golf at the Galway Golf Club, very pretty, in great shape, reasonably priced for the region. After golf we all did a bit of pub hopping, can't say anything bad about any of them, some were more crowded than others, but all were fun to be in. Day 7, surprisingly we haven't driven Maurice completely mad, we head to Ashford Castle but with a slight detour to look at some sheep wandering near the road and a brief visit to Kylemore Abbey. We arrived at Ashford Castle which was well beyond any expectation. The accommodations were absolutely luxurious (pricey but you get what you pay for and it was worth it). Tons of things to do which they review with you as you are signing in, multiple bars on site as well as restaurants. They have a 9 hole golf course, guided wine cellar tour and falconry to name a few (two of our crew did the falconry and loved it). Sadly, we were only at the Castle one night and then we headed back to Dublin, but not without stopping in for a pint at Irelands' oldest bar. Sean's Bar dates back to 900 AD (they're even doing a Netflix documentary on it). The owner was kind enough to give us a quick dissertation of the history of whiskey, which, of course, originated in Ireland. You definitely want to stop in here if you get the chance. And then our trip around Ireland ended back at Brooks Hotel in Dublin. We flew back to the States the next morning.
I have to say that I think I learned more on this trip from Professor Maurice than I have in the last 20 years. I now know more about Ireland than I do about most states in the US (well, there are 50 of them but still). AND Maurice taught us a bit of Gaelic as well as how to understand the color coding on the motorways, so next time (and there will be a next time), we'll be a little less useless as tourists. I know the others will agree as they enter their (I'd imagine slightly shorter) reviews, that Maurice was a HUGE part of our trip and it wouldn't have been in any way, shape or form as good a time if we'd done it without him. Thank you to Small Escorted Tours Of Ireland and a standing ovation to our driver Maurice.

What a beautiful way to experience such a beautiful country! In addition to the excellent trip planning and advice by the front office folks, our guide Paul was in every way a friend and gentleman during our 8-day journey across Ireland - professional, punctual, flexible and incredibly knowledgeable. He was truly caring for every member of our group, which included a six months pregnant woman prone to nausea - a difficult condition on the winding ring of Kerry! With Paul's guidance, access and excellent driving, we had a fascinating and comfortable journey from Dublin to Kilkenny, Killarney and Galway. We also did a one-day jaunt to Belfast. Our tour provided us fantastic food and drink options, quick and easy access to sites on our itinerary, and a friendly first-person account of Irish history and contemporary life and culture. Paul also adapted our schedule based on our interests. One special memory was stopping at a coastal roadside pub on a sunny afternoon and, after enjoying a pint, stepping into the cow paddock next door to try our hurling skills with Paul. How else could we have had such a special experience in Ireland?! We would unreservedly recommend this tour company!

We had a wonderful 2 week vacation in Ireland thanks to Small Escorted Tours. Marian was a delight to work with!! She was extremely patient with us as we changed & rearranged our itinerary again and again. She even arranged a special treat for my husband's birthday! Dermott met us at the airport and gave us a fantastic tour of Bray, Lough Tay, Glendalough, and the Wicklow mountains. Starting in Kilkenny, Kevin drove us all over Ireland, he was witty, and very knowledgeable of local history in each area we visited. The whole team made us feel very welcomed and they were available if we needed anything. We would definitely recommend Small Escorted Tours of Ireland for your vacation!

Excellent! from the initial planning of our trip months before to the Final product Marion helped us customize our trip down to the smallest of details. all of her recommendations were spot on. She even arranged a special stay in a castle for a friends birthday.
The trip itself was amazing made so by our driver Kevin. He was so knowledgeable organized and charming too. He made recommendations and helped guide us when we needed to make some changes to our schedule. He was always on time and never made us feel rushed. We were able to experience everything on our list that we wanted to see.

We (me, my husband and 2 adult daughters) had to postpone this college graduation trip for both daughters because of Covid, so when things started opening back up we took our chance. We inquired with Small Escorted Tours of Ireland and they were awesome in every stage of planning, from accommodations to answering any questions we had and tailoring our trip to the places we asked to see. Paul was very helpful and patient with me as I had many questions.
Even before Covid, we were not fans of traveling on a large bus with lots of people and having no flexibility, so this was the perfect solution.
Our guide Maurice picked us up in a very nice and comfortable Mercedes van and we were off! Just the 5 of us. He was professional, knowledgeable in all of the history we were surrounded by, and very personable - with many a story and jokes. He suggested detours and places along the way that we would have never known about otherwise. The van was always clean and stocked with water and maps to follow if you wanted. Maurice is the best and we feel very grateful to have been on our journey with him.
The flexibility is priceless and the van we were in gets into places that the larger bus tours cannot.
Would highly recommend Small Escorted Tours of Ireland to anyone looking for a more intimate travel experience.

We used Small Escorted Tours of Ireland for a somewhat spur of the moment short trip to Ireland in October. I think our first inquiry to them was only about a month in advance. My wife and I sent lots of emails and had a rather complicated wish list of sights and activities, since one of us wanted to play a little golf and the other did not. They were extremely flexible and patient with us, despite us changing our minds more than a few times in the planning stage. Despite challenging weather, our trip was a huge success. Our driver guide Paul was great. He was friendly, professional, punctual, and unbelievably knowledgeable and informative. We cannot recommend this company highly enough. We had lofty expectations based on all of the glowing reviews, and they exceeded those. We look forward to working with them again next year.

We LOVED working with Small Escorted Tours of Ireland! There were only 3 of us and Paul, our Driver/Guide. He helped customize the trip and looked after us for 2 weeks. He took us places that the big tour groups don't go and told stories and histories of the places -- and he took us for the BEST IRISH COFFEE in Ireland at a small pub out in the middle of nowhere!
Our guide/driver did all of the driving (on the LEFT SIDE of the road). We got to enjoy the scenery, stress-free. We went from Dublin, across to New Grange, and on to the rugged, craggy, western slopes. From there, we traveled down to southern Ireland and visited charming harbor towns, like Cobh, the last stop to board passengers on Titanic's fateful voyage. Finally, we turned up the eastern coast to Kilkenny (one of our favorite stops) where we learned about castles and Hurling, the oldest sport in Ireland. It was an enjoyable, memorable experience we will never forget. The only complaint was that it went far too fast!

Professionally handled, start to finish. Our tour guide/driver, Kevin, was a major plus. He was congenial, helpful and very knowledgable about the places we visited and the history of Ireland. And, of course, the advantages of a van tour vs. a bus tour are immense. A delightful experience. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Going on a trip of this sort you don't know what you don't know. Of course, you want to get the most out of your trip. That is where Small Escorted Tours came in. They helped us put together a trip of a lifetime. A successful trip is equal parts locations, accommodations, comfort of travel and someone to share knowledge of the area you are visiting. These were all knocked out of the park.
We visited more iconic sites than you can comprehend, our accommodations were excellent and Kevin, our driver, always made sure we were comfortably settled before giving the remaining day to ourselves, we traveled in a new model spacious luxury vehicle and Kevin was amazing at sharing his historical knowledge and local customs.
You now what you didn't know, working with Small Escorted of Ireland is a no brainer. Work with them and enjoy your trip.

Our trip to Ireland surpassed my expectations, due to the attentiveness to detail from Small Escorted Tours. They worked closely with our family to accommodate our varied interests and were very patient, as we changed our itinerary several times. Our driver, Kevin, was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge, and we were able to sit back and relax in the luxurious van, as he navigated the narrow roads and brought us from one beautiful city to another. Kevin shared history, stories, and folklore with us, and we felt like he was an old friend by the end of the week. Thank you, Marian and Kevin for planning such a wonderful trip for us. I can’t wait to return to Ireland!

We made our own itinerary with their help. I told them the number of days we had and the places/cities we were wanting to visit which included Northern Ireland and they arranged everything accordingly. The types of accommodations you are wanting are also part of their planning. Other tours set which places you have to go. Here you can plan your own and get awesome suggestions if you are unsure.
