I cycled this Greenway twice - Dungarvan / Waterford / Dungarvan with a friend in lovely May weather. This was our third time cycling this Greenway and it gets better each time with more facilities. The Coach house which is almost equidistant from Dungarvan & Waterford is a particularly great stopping off point. Also the hotels in both places are now geared up and welcoming to cyclists on the Greenway.

We decided to visit the greenway as we anjoy walking, easily found by following the signposts.
Each Km is marked and emergency numbers are on marker posts, good scenery pleasanrt walk, ther old railway infrastructure is still in place and runs alongside the greenway.

Cycled from dungarvan to Waterford today ( and back) with my son . What an amazing day … this greenway is world class … unique and well worth the effort.
We stayed in the Campervan near Clonea beach ( awesome)
Can’t speak highly enough about this amenity .
We met walkers, runners, cyclists, rollerbladers, young and old … something for everyone !
Plenty of water stops, coffee and foot stops
So many things to mention - old tunnels , viaducts, farms, spectacular bridges, novelty trains,
We spent 6 hours there , 4.5 cycling … would love to have stayed longer
Well done Waterford …

Fantastic amenity and free, plenty of places along the route to park and walk or cycle the greenaway, you can do it in sections which is good if you have small children, lots of great places to eat along the way, bring your own bike or hire one from the many operators in the area

I was working in Waterford but decided to stay over on the Friday night and visit the Greenway. Unfortunately the weather was not great so I only got to see a small stretch from Dungarvan to Durrow. It was just awesome. Salty sea air blowing in off the bay and a dash between the rain drops in the tunnel made for a very memorable work visit.

I cycled from Dungarvan to Kilmeadan and back.
The highlights for me was the Scartore coastline and the Darrow viaduct.
While the greenway is beautifully surfaced and well kept, visually there isn't much to see once you pass the darrow viaduct (heading towards Waterford).
My recommendation is to start at McGraths Cross and cycle towards Dungarvan.

The greenaway is very long and is amazing for walking and cycling,my favourite section is the viaduct at kilmacthomas,you get fantastic views walking across the top it and the platforms of the old railway station are still there

My partner and I decided to walk this beautiful greenway and do not regret it. While most people bike we thought we would see more and enjoy by walking. Trail is in great shape, only negative is there are no facilities at all except at cafes which are few and far between. Dungarvan to Kilmacthomas only one at the beginning of the trail. Kilmacthomas to Waterford only one at Kilmeadan. If walking for 5 to 6 hours it is a challenge. We were there in mid September so the summer months might have more. Happy to have visited this trail.

I booked an apartment in Bilberry overlooking the river. The Greenway is just at the gate to the apartment. My daily walk in the evening. Memorable experience daily. Greenery wild flowers forest. Clearly marked with excellent bicycle and walking wide asphalt pathway. Friendly people. Clean.Cool summer breezes.Must do.👍

This greenway is hopefully the vanguard of a cycling revolution in Ireland. Loads of stops along the way and really well maintained. If you are into cycling and in the area do not miss it.

Is there a service that can pick up bags from waterford and drop off at dungarvan if you plan to stay in Dungarvan s few days?

Hi,The only way is to book a taxi company in waterford to collect and deliver the bags and pay by credit card

Hi, what is the surface like? I use a mobility scooter and would like to try to do part of the Greenway, I've managed some of the Camel Trail in the UK (that was a mixture of hard packed shale and concrete. Is the Greenway tarmac?

Can somebody recommend a place to rent bicycles near the Waterford city end of the greenway? We’ve had some crazy quotes, surely there are cheaper out there.

Seeing that shuttle buses from Bike rental companies are not running due to Covid so just wondering if I cycle from Waterford to Dungarvan what is the best way to get back to Waterford?

We decided to do halfway and back and then do the other half from the other side. May not suit your trip but it's actually really pleasant to see the greenway in both directions.

How flat/steep is the gradient for a novice on a bike rider in her 60’s?!
Gentle upward gradient from WIT to Kilmacthomas c19km. Virtually imperceptible. However on the return trip the gentle downward gradient is very welcome for tired 50-something legs 🙂
