There is excellent walking to be had, on the Blessington greenway (see review), to rally appreciate the lakes and the scenery, you cant beat a drive around the perimeter, driving through some lovely towns, and the scenery is absolutely stunning.

One for people who love the outdoors. The lakes and the surrounding area are stunning, and you can take a carefree stroll around them and it’s a great opportunity for some great photographs. In particular On a nice day the Blessington lakes will provide you with great way of taken a relaxing walk around and to enjoy the outdoors. Located not to far from the likes of Glendalough, Powerscourt house and waterfall either. You can definitely spend a day here and enjoy the lakes and surrounding hills and mountains, worth making a day of it and visiting here.

Enjoyed the Blessington Greenway walk immensely. Gorgeous views, well maintained pathways and accurate signage. Fabulous little spots to stop and admire or take a little break.

As well as excellent driving around the lakes, there is also excellent walking, grab a map and head to the Blessington Green Way, for a scenic walk along the lake, we prefer the loop around, Burgage castle, sucking in the fresh air, hardly anyone around this time of year.

We stopped off here on the road up to Valleymount/Ballyknocken.
There never seems to be too many cars parked up here ( unless You are a local You will need a car the get here ).
Ont thing, there are no toilet facilities, or at least none that we could see. But I only wish people would bring their rubbish home with them, and not leave it lying around, as can be seen from the attached photos.

Blessington Lake is such a relaxing, picturesque place to spend a bit of time. There is a lovely walk you can do along it's shores. Next time I'll bring the bike as the trails are wide enough to accommodate both walkers and bikes. Most visitors go to Russborough House which is along the walking route but sadly we just didn't have the time. Next visit though, definitely!
Easily accessible by public bus from Dublin and plenty of parking if you arrive by car like we did.

Nice greenway from the Avon Ri center in Blessington. Great place for a family day out .... your walking around the lakes and via some forests - with a brief jaunt onto the main road to cross the lake. Great for wearing out the toddler and we had a nice coffee at the end in the Avon Ri hotel....trail was busy but it was sunday afternoon - but it was by and large buggy friendly

Just a short hop from Dublin this can easily be done as an out and back or a linear walk by dropping a car where you want to finish to retrieve the car at the start. Or if you get the timing right you could do it by public bus.
It's an easy stroll for all ages. In all weather. With pets and even room for the kids on bikes.
With small kids there are some great sections of woode to explore.
And adults can enjoy Russborough house or one of the many eateries that Blessington has to offer.

Hi you can park at the AvonRi it is free. The walk starts over by the tennis courts. Enjoy.

Can't think of a camp site but you could contact the Avon Ri Hotel - they should be able to direct you. They have holiday houses for rent and lots of activities, water based and land based. Be surprised if they couldn't recommend somewhere to park your camper van.

Hi Marian sorry about the late reply. No there is no approved place to park your camper in avonri. There are plenty of places for wild camping around the lakes.

Just load up a picnic and head off for the day.
