We had not expected the classical style interior to this building. Welcoming and good hardboards with explanation of the main historic features.

A beautiful Cathedral serving Derby town centre parking is somewhat confusing and lots of CCTV to issue a ticket I believe that you have parked in the wrong place check before parking

Beautiful Georgian-style cathedral in the heart of Derby. It rivals Leicester Cathedral for the smallest cathedral in the Midlands (or England as a whole?). Beautiful layout, plenty of architectural details. It is also notable for its frequent activities, like concerts and temporary art projects. The latter was evident during my latest visit in October. A giant globe was hanging from the ceiling as part of the "Gaya" exhibition. Among many interesting objects you'll find the grave slab of Joseph Wright of Derby, the town's most historically important painter. Head over to Derby Museum and Art Gallery to see some of his famous works.
During my visit, I accidentally caught an organ rehearsal. Have never been able to attend a concert here, alas.

We visited during the mourning period for our late Queen, so it was nice to sign the book of remembrance.
This is a Georgian cathedral, so not one of the spectacular medieval ones, however it has its own charm and interests. Inside the church has nice clean lines, and unlike many Georgian churches there is no balcony to make it appear cluttered and gloomy. There is a fine wrought iron screen, and a monument to the famed Bess of Hardwick as well as other notables of the Cavendish family. Very friendly welcome too, well worth a visit.

We arrived late from Shropshire and there was a Service going on but were told by a nice Man that when the Service finished and before the next Service started we could have a brief view of Gaia. We waited 2 hours and with our Donations we went back. The door was open and most of the congregation had left. However, we were told by an abrupt lady that unless we were attending Evensong we couldn't go in and she immediately turned her back on us and shut the door!!!

This is a touring artwork by the Bristol based artist Luke Jerram, who also created the "Museum of the Moon" and shows the Earth as seen from space. An interesting fact is that the Earth in its entirety was first seen by humankind as a floating blue marble in space in 1972 from NASA's Apollo 17 mission apparently.

Does not look much from the outside. You can see rear of cathedral from the museum. Inside it appears much larger with a nice organ and stained glass windows

There is no entrance fee but a donation box. i believe there is a charge if you want to do the tower, i couldn't do it at the time due to a service being conducted.

I am interested in seeing a concert here but am concerned by the 'free for all' policy on seating.
Do the huge pillars block views or are seats arranged around them so a good view is had by all?

We found it, very inviting, and everyone could sit where ever they wanted, they even supplied tea/coffee and biscuits. The pillars where not a problem.

Hi. I'm a keen amauter photographer, and love taking photos. Lots of them. I have found that when you are in the UK you can take photos of most places, but no flash photos.
