Very interesting and well laid out museum. Friendly staff and lots to see, from the process of making them, the different types, usage and development of tiles through to lots of beautiful historic tiles, many saved from old building and reminiscent of the butchers shops of my youth, old London Underground stations etc and whole dioramas of the types of places they would have been used. Some really beautiful examples of hand painted ones too.
Would have liked to have visited the church outside, as this is supposed to have a lovely tiled interior, but it was locked up.

For me this was the highlight of the Ironbridge museums. More of an art gallery with thousands of beautiful works of art displayed brilliantly in this lovely building. We took at least 2 hours to see this fine collection of tiles and read all about them. I can't recommend it highly enough to people who like beautiful things.

So disappointed that the museum no longer does demonstrations of tile making. I visited approximately 12 years ago and saw the most magical demonstration of encaustic tile making. I’ve told so many people about it since then recommending that they visit. I took my sons and some friends last week and without the demonstrations it was just another museum.
Hands on tile decorating can be done in so many places, but the demonstrations were unique.

The museum was faultless but at £10 per person i was surprised to find i had to pay for parking. It should be included, but the museum itself was well worth the visit

Only visited the cafe today as I was on a walk... will definitely go again for gluten free cake... at least four choices so I felt really spoilt! Thank you for thinking of us coeliacs! Jx

We stopped in here as it was raining and had a bg surprise. What a wonderful museum. The tiles are stunning. Beautiful ceramic artwork.
The only downside was that we got a £60 parking fine when we got back from our holiday having innocently assumed the museum entry fee would include the parking! I am very cross about it. So be warned. The museum staff could have tipped us off, so I'm taking off a star.

We had bought an annual pass and this gem of a museum is included and is well worth spying out.
Fascinating seeing all the beautiful tiles, and learning about them, some are so colourful, some make up whole stories some are so old they have corners missing or cracks in them.
Lovely cafe for a quick bite and very reasonably priced. There is also a nice little shop we bought quite a large tile with 3 dogs on it.
In the courtyard are some shops owned by individual artists only one was open and the glass objects were breathtaking unfortunately far to expensive for an OAP these days.

I just love this kind of thing. There are many types of tile, ranging from Roman to victorian and beautiful they are!
A running theme throughout the museum is the application of tiles in a domestic setting such as hospitals, butcher shops and hospitals and there are displays showing just this.
Altogether a very interesting, thought provoking and creative experience.
We didn't have time for any of the practical workshops and browsing the exterior of the site due to heavy rain, but overall I would recommend what doesn't sound like a very interesting experience.

Absolutely loved it. I was keen to visit but it was even better than I'd hoped
An excellent collection of tiles, every time you look at a collection you see something different.
Some lovely setup rooms showing how tiles would be used e.g. an underground station, a pub, butchers etc

There were lots of Staff at the Tile museum, so I would say no appointment was needed.

There are workshops during the school summer holidays where you can make a tile, Tuesdays to Fridays until 31st August.
