A well organised tour courtesy of Rose visited places I've walked past many a time but never realised the impact it made on the music culture of Manchester.

What a fab tour of some of the most iconic sites, Rose was fab and gave us all a great insight into some of the music history. As she said, “I know, I was there’”
10/10 and is a must-do for fans of the city’s music scene.

Myself & my Mum went on the Oasis Bus Tour run by Manchester Music Tours on Saturday 14th Dec. We travelled down from Glasgow and this was part of a birthday weekend trip. We went to see Paul McCartney at his Manchester gig on the Sunday night so being a diehard Oasis fan who grew up in Somerset listening to their music in the 90s/00s, it was a great opportunity for me to go on the tour on the Saturday.
I can honestly say that the tour was like going on a pilgrimage and it was probably 1 of the best days of my life.😁 The tour was led by the lovely Rose Gill, the wife of the late Craig Gill who was the drummer for the band Inspiral Carpets whose guitar roadie was a young Noel Gallagher. Craig was also the founder of the Manchester Music Tours.
Rose’s knowledge of Manchester’s music history is just incredible and I learned a lot that day. On the tour, we didn’t just learn about the story of Oasis but also the story of all the other great artists/bands from the city, visiting the locations that are significant to their stories.
There were so many highlights throughout the tour, esp The Boardwalk where Oasis first started out but for me personally, there are three main highlights; one was standing outside Bonehead’s house where the famous ‘Definitely Maybe’ album cover photo was taken. I felt like a 15 year old & I couldn’t resist getting my Mum to take a photo of me outside the front house though in hindsight, I should have asked permission first lol. Sorry Rose.
The second highlight was visiting the Johnny Roundhouse music shop where I got to see Bonehead’s guitar that he played for many years with Oasis and I also got to sit on the very stool that he sat on when he played at the famous two gigs at Maine Road in 1996. I had to grab a guitar and strum away and bought some plectrums, haha!
The third highlight was visiting Sifters Record Shop, the shop that inspired the Oasis’ single ‘Shakermaker’. It was great to finally meet and chat with the owner Mr Howard, known affectionately as ‘Mr Sifter’. He was an absolute gentleman, a typical old Mancunian and in my opinion, the last of a dying breed. I don’t think record shops like this one are very common these days, when you consider how people go about getting their records and how they listen to their records today. I bought myself a vinyl and a CD in the shop.
At the end of the tour, we went back to where we started at the Vinyl Revival shop and I treated myself to some vinyl records, mainly Oasis & The Stone Roses (surprise surprise🤣) Afterwards, we went around the corner to have a drink at the newly Definitely Maybe Bar. A must visit for any Oasis fan!
All in all, it was a fantastic tour and I highly recommend it to not only Oasis fans but also to anyone who has a keen interest in Manchester’s music history. It was also good to know that Rose said that the tour is not commercialised like some music tours in the UK and their aim is to keep it that way because she and others involved have lived through the music scene & therefore have plenty of stories to tell. I will certainly come back to go on the other tours.
Thank you so much Rose & to the driver who drove us to the locations. Best wishes and have a Great Christmas & New Year.
God bless Manchester & the Mancunians.

The MMT was the highlight of our visit to Manchester and a must-do for any fans of the Manchester music scene. Rose is a brilliant guide who was engaging, personable and made our experience that much more memorable. As she was part of the scene back in the 80s and knew most of the main players who shaped the industry, her insight was wonderful in painting a picture of what it was truly like back when the Hacienda and the Factory were still around. We visited the Salford Lad's Club, the Epping Walk (Joy Division) bridge, Strangeways and Sifters. We were also given a small walking tour of the main highlights of the music scene and told about the people and places important to that era. Without the tour we would never have known where to go or what to see. Thank you, Rose!! Please don't ever stop - you made the trip for us.

My partner and I are huge fans of the Manchester music scene, so this was the perfect tour for us!
Rose was so friendly and knowledgeable - we learned so many interesting things about our favourite bands from her, and how they each of them rose to fame.
Highlights were the Salford Lads Club and Mr.Sifters!
Thanks for a fantastic day, which was authentically grey and rainy! 😂 xxx

Highly recommendable for anyone interested in the Manchester music scene. Even if you are not a Smiths fan, you will get to learn a lot from the knowlegeable guide Rose. Having the chance to visit Salford Lads Club was the highlight of the tour!

We came on the Oasis Tour as part of my 40th birthday. What a day! Was far more in depth than we both realised.
Rose has lived and breathed the Manchester music scene and her enthusiasm was fantastic. Although it was an Oasis tour, Rose intertwined all sorts of interesting facts and stories about the Manchester scene throughout. Really well delivered and a great day.
We will be back for one of the other tours for sure! Thanks Rose!

Sorry to hear that Craig passed away , I’m traveling to London at the end of December and I would like to know if there’s a Manchester music tour or if Ian Curtís house was turned into a museum as news said back in 2010s . If so where I can buy the tickets in advance ... Thank you

Is there a private tour for Joy Division, The Smiths, and Stones Roses?

My teenaged daughter was desperately hoping for a Morrissey tour during our trip to Manchester a couple weeks. I'm so sorry to hear that the owner of this tour company has passed away. Can any of you recommend a similar tour company? Thanks in advance!

I'm so sorry, but Craig passed away on Nov. 20. I can see on their Facebook page that his former partner is planning on resuming the tours in the near future, but until then I recommend you buy his book (available on Amazon), it'll help you plan your visit to MCR.

I wanted to book a stone roses tour for next year & have tried emailing via the main website but have had no response about if any dates are being announced so thought I'd try on here. Any info would be great!

I would like to book a private Joy Division/Smiths combo tour if possible for a day the first week of March. The website links for booking anything redirect every time to a Canadian pharmacy website. Somewhat fitting given the nature of the music scene I suppose...but how does one actually book something through the website? Thank you and kind regards.

Hi - the contact icon on the website seems to be working again.
The mobile no on the website is 0044(0) 7958 246 917. He's also on Twitter and Facebook - just look up Craig Gill - the owner. Hope this works
Regards
Yvonne
