Go for the Art, NOT WWII history.

I went along expecting a WWII type historical experience but it was nothing of the sort. Principally an art installation with Salvador Dali and Antoni Gaudi pieces set to moody music in darkened concrete submarine base penstocks. I found this a very pleasant surprise but friends I was with were a touch disappointed there wasn't more information or any submarine artifacts (or a boat).

Il faut se laisser emporter par les tableaux de Dali et la mise en scène en musique, sans oublier les volumes de cette base militaire. Cet alchimie rend le site et cette visite magnifiques.

Visite de l'exposition" Dali, l'énigme sans fin" dans un lieu complètement atypique et hors norme. Quelle belle idée et quelle belle mise en scène. Je choix de DALI n'était pas innocent car j'adore. J'y retournerais sans hésiter pour découvrir de nouvelles expositions dans ce lieu époustouflant.

Atmospheric but a little scary.

This is a set of U Boat pens now concerted into an art centre. It was displaying animations of Dali and Gaudi work on a massive scale.

It was very dark and not for the serious claustrophobe I think. But it is absolutely flat, with barriers that ensure you can't wander into the water. I saw several wheelchair users who seemed to be having no problem navigating around.

My only frustration is that I missed a display on the wartime history of the place. Also there's nothing in the shop about that aspect of it.

There's a basic little cafe outside and a small memorial to the Spanish Republican prisoners who were forced to work, and often to die, building it in WW 2.

Une belle magie pour les yeux

Cela fait 3 fois que jy viens pour voir les differentes expositions la dernière de Dali et Gaudi est très intéressante j'ai préféré celle des impressionnistes lais c'est un régal de couleurs de peintures de musique une belle féerie remplit de magie c'est un bel endroit bien aménagé surtout prenez vos tickets sur internet afin d'éviter de faire la queue sur place parking gratuit inutile de le reserver il y a beaucoup de places

Un lieu emblématique et chargé d’histoire complètement défiguré par de l’art abstrait projeté par jeux de lumière.
Les bambins, eux, s’amusent bien : chassant le moindre motif sur le sol.
L’histoire et le dessein du bâtiment reste reléguée dans un enclos de quelques panneaux.
Il m’apparaît fort dommage de ne pas exploiter ce lieu sur la base de son histoire.
Quant au tarif, il est fort excessif.

Ehemalige deutsche U-Bootbasis, bekannt aus dem Film "Das Boot"

Die ehemalige deutsche U-Bootbasis ist Ingenieurtechnisch ein Meisterwerk und wurde nie ernsthaft beschädigt. Sie diente zudem als Kulisse für den Film "Das Boot", der eigentlich in La Rochelle spielt. Für die Ewigkeit gebaut, wird das Gebäude inzwischen als "Bassins des Lumières" für beeindruckende Multimedia-Installationen auf der Basis der Werke von Dali und Gaudi genutzt. Etwas abseits der Altstadt - historisch zum Glück - aber sehenswert und mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln gut erreichbar.
