J'ai retourne à chacune de mes visites au pays basque, le lieu est merveilleux, pas facile à trouver et tout petit parking mais le vue est à couper le souffle, l'endroit paisible, bien entretenu, il y a des bancs pour faire des pauses, je recommande sans problème lieu incontournable.

A stroll to this viewpoint from Saint-Jean-de-Luz is definitely worthwhile, others might pass by here, when hiking on the 'Sentier littoral' out of Bidart further north. The hill with a tiny chapel dedicated to Saint Barbara, patron saint of artillerists and firemen, marks the northern end of the 'Baie de Saint-Jean-de-Luz et Ciboure'.
The main reason to come up here are the views, although with plenty of greenery and with benches this could also be a good picnic spot. The views here include the town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz and its three beaches: Plage 'Les Flots Bleus' (with rocks in the water), just below, the 'Plage Nord Digue Chevaux' (with some rocks) further on and finally the 'Grande Plage' with fine sand. Below the hill one can observe, especially at low tide, formations of flysch, layers of sedimentary rocks, typical for this area.
Looking across the bay one will see the three seawalls, built over a period of 30 years at the end of the 19th century, to protect the entrance to Saint-Jean-de-Luz harbour: Digue de Socoa, Digue de l'Artha and Digue Sainte-Barbe, just below the hill. Further out, looking towards the Pyrenees, one will discern the peak La Rhune and the 'Trois Couronnes' (Peñas de Aya) on the Spanish side of the mountain range.

Le panorama est vraiment superbe il faut absolument continuer le sentier littoral. De surprise en surprise des couleurs changeantes des montagnes un peu dans les nuages dommage. L'océan toujours et encore on ne se lasse pas

Saint-Jean-de-Luz fait partie de ces petites villes touristiques qui ont pour atout d'offrir, en plus d'un beau centre historique, une promenade familiale de premier ordre à quelques encablures seulement du cœur de ville. On suit tranquillement les dénivelés, on prend de la hauteur et, par beau temps, on profite de panoramas superbes. Car l'autre atout du coin, c'est l'alliance des paysages: l'océan, avec ses différentes nuances de bleu, la plage en croissant, la ville, les collines où s'étagent dans un harmonieux désordre les riches villas, donnant au site un faux-air de San Francisco, et au-delà les silhouettes bleutées de la Rhune et des autres sommets. De l'autre côté, un platelage mène à un point de vue d'où l'on observe les vagues se heurter contre la côté. L'effet est saisissant. Tout est si photogénique qu'on trouve partout sur internet et dans les guides des clichés emblématiques du lieu.
