George owns and runs a wonderfully dark underground bar set in what used to be a storage cellar of an ancient monastery. For Americans, he shows NFL football on Sundays. The drinks, the ambience, the friendly attitude are everything you can want in a bar. We never miss Pomme d'Eve when we visit Paris. And we will return.

We had a wonderful birthday night here. George was so nice and everything was perfect .
Great location, good music for dance and very good drinks.
Prices are very correct.

Un agréable moment en famille et entre amis. Ambiance calme et conviviale dans un cadre pittoresque en sous-sol sous une belle voûte de vieilles pierres. Live Music le jeudi. Slam et poésie de la Guadeloupe le soir de notre visite. Une équipe sympathique, quelques spécialités sud-africaines à grignoter, et de bon cocktails.

As the name does not hint, this is a South African bar, hidden in an underground gothic type vault under beautiful stone archs, that you can in no way imagine by merely looking at the facade...
I went there only to join a Tango evening announced in the Paris Tango Agenda.
What a surprise.
Apart from a damp air impression , catching your throat, when you start your descent to what could be a Phantom of Paradise scenery, the place ia worth the visit. The bartender was very friendly, and the bar offer looked very appetizing.
But I never drink alcohol when dancing.
All around the place, lots of restaurants and bars of the Montagne Ste-Geneviève a very busy night area in the 5th district , few minutes walking distance from the famous Rue Mouffetard, which you MUST visit.
Several centuries of French history, from Kings to revolution, haunt these cobbled streets
Oposite the bar you can admire, and visit, in the day, the ST- Etienne du Mont Church,
At night, the church has a ghostly background with the eery lights of the Pantheon
Harry Potter is certainly around...

Bar sud africain dans une ancienne crypte d'église avec un bon choix de bières et de "sides". Retransmission du Super Bowl et autres évènements sportifs sur grand écran. Seul bémol, l'accueil et le service est inégal.

I have been living in Paris for a while now and I saw this bar change for the better.
At first, it was a bit of a dive, known if it's easygoing policy at the door.
Nowadays, the bouncers are much more strict, especially at the weekends. The music has vastly improved along with the crowd.
The venue itself is stunning and the owner - George - is a top lad. I love to get a good old Castle beer there - reminds me of my trip in Cape Town. Barmaids often change but are always top notch. Pricing is decent.
Get busy after 1am and close very, very late. It has the reputation to be opened all year long (that is, 7/7 even bank holidays, Christmas, 1st Jan etc...).
Two things that I don't really like and must be noted: Toilets are in a poor state and I wish George could have them refurbished. The bouncers can get on your nerve and a bit edgy.
All in all a good place to hang out for a late drink.

Quel plaisir d'avoir un bar sud af' à Paris. Le patron, de Joburg, est très sympa et se met volontiers à parler de son magnifique pays.
Il propose de l'Amarula mais surtout... de la Hunter's Gold et de la Savannah directement du pays Arc En Ciel.
Enfin, il est possible de regarder les matches de Boks.

This a bar with terrible bouncers. They constantly monitor where you should sit and keep the white and dark people segregated like it used to be in SA. They haven't learn anything from Mandela and are a poor example in human equality and on how they should be treated. They were rude and unjustified in their very biased acts against us and I would only call it, unfortunately, to not my liking as racism.
