Yes, this place is under thorough renovation. However its exhibits are dispatched around town. And you can still admire its beautiful outside architecture, and the gorgeous surrounding old town.

Le musée lorrain est en rénovation et lors de notre venue, celui-ci était fermé pour cause de travaux de rénovation. J’ai pu voir une pancarte "« Ici se construit le musée de demain » Par contre, il est vrai que la rue ou se trouve ce musée est à voir car il y a de magnifiques sculptures et de jolis balcons. Je conseille de continuer la rue afin de se rendre à l'église des cordeliers, dont l'entrée est gratuite, et où l'on peut voir des gisants.

De buitenkant geeft al zoveel mooie details om van te genieten, wat zal het een genot zijn om over 5 jaar hier binnen te stappen. Het mooie beeldhouwwerk, de waterspuwers en het prachtige dak zijn alleen al de moeite waard om te bekijken! Geniet daarna van de oude stad eromheen.

Sitz der Herzöge von Lothringen ab Ende des 15. Jahrhunderts (erbaut im 16. Jahrhundert). Im Revolutions-Jahr 1848 wurde er zum Lothringer Museum (Musée Lorrain). Der grandiose Eingang, „Porterie“ genannt, geht auf das Schloss von Blois zurück. Spannend ist hier der Übergang von gotischen alten Formen zu den neuen Formen der Renaissance zu sehen. Derzeit wird renoviert, aber die Kirche der Cordeliers ist offen (Eintritt frei).

It is hard to believe, but reviews are still appearing for this apparently excellent museum which is securely locked and will not re-open its doors to the public until around 2024. Yes, they are planning some kind of virtual tour but when we visited, the doors were shut and there was no explanation as to why it was closed in any language other than French. Visitors are advised to ‘suivez-nous en ligne’ which basically means ‘check out our website’. Most disappointing!!

il était inscrit que ce musée était gratuit le 1er dimanche de mars 2019 donc nous y sommes allés mais nous avons trouvé porte close donc trés décus

Musee Lorrain hosted in two connected buildings, the Ducal Palace with a Gothic facade dating to the 15th century and which used to be the home of the Dukes of Lorraine, and the Eglise des Cordeliers also gothic in style. Entrance was 4 euro and the part in the palace featured objects and paintings from antiquity all the way to the 19th century, while the church featured gothic sculptures along with farming tools and furniture of lorraine's past.
