Lots of history in this museam--provides detail on the lineage of Ludwig and others--we enjoyed it--spent at least 1 1/2 hours there.

Ancor prima di salire ai castelli ci è parso giusto conoscere la storia dei Re Bavaresi. Acquistato il biglietto comodamente la sera prima tramite internet. Museo a mio avviso, nel suo piccolo, ben organizzato che attraverso una comoda audio guida, anche in italiano, è possibile conoscere la storia, passata e recente, dei Re di Baviera e le diverse generazioni.
Molto interessante... ottime le rappresentazioni e ben fatte le diverse spiegazioni : mio figlio di 7 anni ha ascoltato tutto con interesse!!!
A mio avviso da visitare assolutamente. Non si può visitare i castelli senza conoscere la storia dei loro Re!!

Booked a ticket as part of viewing the nearby castles. You get an audio guide to help with the item description, however there was some English details on the pieces. Museum has a variety of theme rooms giving the history of Bavarian kings. Well laid out & pleasant to walk around.

Ein sehr interessantes und informatives Museum über die Bayrischen Königs-Familien. Man sollte sich aber nur die Dinge über den Audio-Guide anhören, die einen wirklich interessieren, da es ansonsten doch sehr ermüdend wird.

Ein schönes Museum mit vielen interessanten Details. Der kostenlose Audioguide zum ausleihen ist super. Das Museum sollte man machen, wenn man vor Ort ist.

Ein sehr schönes Museum über die Adelsfamilie Wittelsbacher Bayerns. Wie der Name des Museum bereits andeutet, es geht hier mehr um die Personen, anstatt um die Schlösser und Architektur. Einige sehr schöne Ausstellungsstücke sind dabei. Beamter-Videos, Touch-Monitore, Audioguide machen sie sehr abwechslungsreich. Einige interessante Figuren lernt man kennen und das Interesse auf Mehr wird geweckt, zB über Therese von Bayern.

Together with my Guests from the US, we visited the Museum der Bayerischen Könige in Hohenschwangau. The original plan was to attend a guided tour in the Castle Neuschwanstein, but as this tour had to be in English and as the were only a few spots left at other days, I bought the tickets for the Museum online. This was because it was written on their page, that Tickets can be purchased only online. However this is not correct. We could have bought the Tickets also on the spot. And then you save, quite a lot of money. So we supported the maintance of the Museum. And this incorrect information is also the only reason for not giving 5 points. The Museum itself is nice to visit and gives a good insight into the history of Ludwig II and also the time before and after.
So in case you can book a tour in one of the two castles, this would be the first choice again. But in case this is not possible you can visit the Castle from outside and then have a self guided tour in the Museum. One hour is enough time to consider.
Ludwig II (Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm; 25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886) was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. He is sometimes called the Swan King or der Märchenkönig ('the Fairy Tale King')
So in case you can book a tour in one of the two castles, this would be the first choice again. But in case this is not possible you can visit the Castle from outside and then have a self guided tour in the Museum. One hour is enough time to consider.

War innerhalb von 2 Jahren schon 3 mal in diesem äußerst informativen Museum.Man sollte sich wirklich Zeit nehmen, den Audioguide (inkludiert im Eintrittspreis) anzuhören.Man kann dann ganz toll in die Geschichte Bayerns, die eng mit dem Haus Wittelsbach verbunden ist,eintauchen.

I have bought a online ticket to just Neuschwanstein Castle as I am not sure if I can get more time and energy to visit the other castle. But if time permits, Can I buy museum ticket separately as a walk-in customer? If yes, does not mean I have to stand again in same queue as for Castle ticket or is there a separate ticket counter for Museum with short queue? Thanks in advance.

We went there in Sept and we popped in for an hour before our tours - say 10-11am and then went back there after from, say, 4-5pm. Just need to allow time to walk to the furthest castle. You can get a horse and cart but it's not much quicker than walking. You really need a full day here to do the 2 castles and the museum without rushing. Parking is well organised. Book your castle tour times and go from there
