Less impressive than the New Town Hall is however very interesting and divides Marienplatz from the central market. The first building was built at the beginning of the 14th century and was replaced by another at the end of the century later, while the current construction dates back to the mid-19th century. It is currently home to the Toy Museum.

The eastern end of Marienplatz is formed by the Old Town Hall, built between 1470 and 1480 by Jörg von Halspach, also called Ganghofer, in the late Gothic style. On the first floor is the dance hall, equipped with the lime wood carved morisk dancers by Erasmus Grasser. The ten figures up to 81 cm high are among the most beautiful sculptures of their time (the originals are now in the Stadtmuseum München). The hall is still used as a banquet hall by the city. The Old Town Hall is known from the early 14th century. It was reconstructed in the late Gothic style in 1670 - 1680, and in the neo-Gothic style in 1861 - 1864. Located on Marienplatz.

Great area, maybe a bit too crowded, lovely to walk and very ornate architecture. Lots of bars and cafes in the Marienplatz area too

…it looks like an ancient fairytale castle!!…but it is the Old Town Hall of Munich!!…in Marienplatz!!…Altes Rathaus!!…and over time it is said that it has had some renovations!!…in fact despite its years!!…it's really beautiful!!…it is said that in the Tower of the building!!…which is 55 meters high!!…you can visit the Toy Museum!!…which presents the history of the toy over the of the centuries!!…an exhibition space spread over four floors!!l…I have only seen this Old Town Hall in Munich from the outside!!…

The old town hall building closes a short side of the Marienplatz, on the opposite side to the one where the Madonna Column is located. The first construction dates back to the beginning of the 14th century but over the centuries it has been rebuilt several times, the last time after the end of the Second World War. Although less visually impactful than the new town hall, it is still a building with typical architecture, characterized by its large tower and the lower passages that allow crossing it and therefore direct access to the square. Inside there is the toy museum.

At first glance, the Old Town Hall looks younger than the New Town Hall. But appearances are deceptive. It actually dates back to the 15th century. The building was badly damaged in World War II, but was rebuilt afterwards. The Gothic hall is now used for political representation purposes, and the tower houses a toy museum.
