This review is of the French Castles Tour that I was on in May 2023. What an excellent tour visiting so many sites in seven days. There were only seven of us on the tour and so transportation was in 2 vehicles, a minivan and an SUV. The drivers were very nice young men from Czech Republic whom were friendly and informative. What was nice was only two hotels during the tour, (plus the last night at a CDG airport hotel) so not packing up every day. The owner of the company, Astrid Baur, met us at the airport and had dinner with us the first night. Charming woman who really takes an interest in her guests and wants to ensure an enjoyable tour.
First two nights were in Paris, hotel was just fine, and we got to Versailles Palace, up the Eiffel Tower and a cruise on the Seine. Then it was off to the Loire Valley (with a stop first at Fontainebleu) where we spent four nights at the 15th century Chateau de Razay, a beautiful old Chateau converted to a B&B. This B&B did not have air conditioning and the bathroom only had a tub with nothing to prevent water from going all over the place, so something to be aware of. Good that was not very hot during our stay so no big deal on no AC. They did have picnic tables outside to relax and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of a busy day touring. We ate two dinners at the Chateau de Razay and they were very good, including a wine tasting with a local sommelier.
We toured 8 or 9 different Chateaus during our stay in Loire Valley, and all were incredible in their own way. Adequate time was spent at each in my opinion, and plenty of time for lunch was given. Each one also included audio guides. This was the best part of the tour and so worthwhile to see these places and understand the history behind them.
The last full day was driving back to Paris and visiting the Louvre museum, which is always good to see. Then off to the airport where we spent the last night at Citizen M hotel right in the airport. Very nice hotel, fairly new, and convenient if you want to head back into Paris via the RER train.
Overall this was an excellent tour visiting so many incredible places, well organized, enjoyable and well worth the price. I will probably do another tour that this company offers in the future. Well done Astrid!

We booked a full day private tour of King Ludwig castles, Oberammergau & Wiesenkirche seeing lots of beautiful countryside along the way. Mathew our guide, was super! Very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and made the day lots of fun! I would highly recommend booking with European Castle tours!

As a solo traveler I promised myself that it will be my last time to join a tourgroup and explore Europe on my own. I am fascinated of castles so why not join a castle tourgroup for my last one? Reading through the itinerary of the Rhine Castle Tour, I was surprised that such itinerary exists with a very reasonable pricepoint! The selling point for me was staying in 1 hotel for 5 days and not do the excruciating packing and unpacking everyday, a traveler's dream, so I took the plunge. Astrid was very accommodating and patient enough in answering all my questions the moment I decided to book and up to the time I left the US. As soon as I met up with the group in Frankfurt, i was pleasantly surprised that I signed up for a private tour for a very inexpensive price, even better! I knew right there and then that it will be an extraordinary trip of a lifetime for it was not a 3 dozen people in 1 tour.
Jan, our tireless, funny, professional, passionate, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, organized, and caring Tour Director greeted us all with his winsome smile at the airport. We all bonded right away as soon as we headed to Boppard! Dinners and breakfasts were a delight for they were delicious! Ala carte dinners and buffet breakfasts, why not?! The hotel rooms were very comfortable, clean and were a traveler's dream until the last day of the tour. Everything was executed with precision time wise and activity wise. Pre-trip, I had in mind which places i would be enjoying, but i found myself liking each activity we had. The time recommendations of Jan of each activity were spot on and therefore we covered more beautiful places. Cruising along the Rhine was dreamlike, the castle visits were fantastic, the photo opportunities were endless, everyday was like opening a gift, it was special and filled with surprises. There were plenty of oohs and aaahs and even jumping for joy for the places we'd been were sooo beautiful like Burg Eltz and Rothenburg! Each place was like turning the pages of a storybook.. my own fairytale.
The wine tastings were incredible (yes, the Riesling was oh so good! I actually desensitized myself after the trip!!) The safe driving skills of Jan was paramount for it enabled us to enjoy the places we visited with peace of mind. His oh so clean, comfortable and dependable Mercedes made each trip fun because of the smooth ride. Long drive was not a problem for we were entertained by the beautiful sceneries along the way, the fun conversations and also the enjoyable music we listened to, the 80's Heckya! Out of the blue Jan played the Russian version of "It's My Life!" hahaha we were all cracking up and could not stop laughing!! There was nothing like it! Sooo much fun and a true definition of a getaway and relaxation! Hoooof I miss those days! We had a tourmate with gluten allergy and Jan was so mindful in making sure that she could have gluten free meals and or restaurant recommendations so she can enjoy her trip without a flare up. Punctuality is one of the things that Jan imposed but in a friendly and nice way. Not being rushed was a game changer in my way of traveling! Astrid truly understood what traveling is all about therefore made the itinerary travel friendly so each traveler will create precious memories that will last a lifetime without feeling exhausted but savor each moment with fondness. There is nothing like this company. I'd been with Rick Steves, Trafalgar, Collette, and some other tour companies but there is nothing compared to Astrid's group and Jan himself. If not for Jan our trip would not have been twice as fun. He's a natural,a good person and I strongly recommend him to be your Tour Director if you choose Astrid's group. No doubt you will have the time of your life, like the 4 of us (Wes, Caroline and hubby) who have experienced traveling at its best with Jan. So I guess I will join a tour group again only with Astrid's group and Jan as my Tour Director. No regrets!

Me and my fiancé just got back from a wonderful time on the Bavarian Castles Tours with an extension in Rothenburg. From the scenery to the food, it was all amazing. I would not hesitate to use them again. The tour guides Fredrico and Jan were excellent and had a wealth of knowledge of the area. A big thanks must also go out to Astrid for her level of detail and organization in planning these trips to make sure everything runs smoothly. I can’t wait to go back to Europe with European Castle Tours!

Jan was amazing! He personality coupled with his knowledge of this area kept us both entertained and happy we had booked this tour. We highly recommend him to out her people visiting this area. His connections with other people in the area made our tour a pleasant experience. If we come back we will definitely use you folks again.

We recently enjoyed the Bavarian Castles tour with an extension to Rottenburg. What a great tour. This is something that my wife and I have wanted to do for years and Astrid and her team made it possible. We were actually able to visit Neuschwanstein on our anniversary. The tour was planned and executed perfectly. The itinerary is perfect to see the castles and countryside of Bavaria. Unfortunately my wife became ill towards the end of the tour and required hospitalization. Astrid and her team, Barbara, Jan, Sandro and Julia made sure that all of our needs were met going beyond expectations. My wife is better but we are so grateful to Astrid and her team for making our tour as good as could be. This was an unforgettable experience for a lot of people but we are so thankful to everyone. I would highly recommend Astrid’s tours to anyone. Vielen dank Astrid. Bis spaeter.

Highly recommend European Castles Tours. This was the second tour my friend and I have taken with this tour company and we’ve had such great experiences. Love that it’s a small group tour company and our guides were wonderful. Have taken the River Castles Tour and Black Forest, Alsace and Switzerland tours. The accommodations were great, as well as our scheduled dining. As advertised this is not a drive by experience, but exploration of wonderful castles, churches, and villages. I truly hope to travel with them again. Thank you ECT for helping make some wonderful memories ❤️

on the boat of course you see the castles, but with us you go inside... and we also do short cruises on the most scenic part of the River..
please see the comment from Lynn W, on 14th October that did just that. I am sure she is also happy to reply to you. Let me know if you have any questions and take a look at our website, I do recommend the "River Castles Tour" for you....

Hello, we do not "have tour" but can create one as a private tour. Please let me know exactly which date, how many days and what should be included( hotels and meals as well as sightseeing?).
Rothenburg, Romantic Road, Castles and back to Munich cannot be done in one day. Thank you and sorry I do not speak portuguese.

I’ll be in Barcelona July 11 through August 10, with a trip July 16-23 to Portugal. We are staying in Lisbon then Porto. I’d like to do some medieval castle tours for a few days if possible leaving from Barcelona or possibly day trips while in Portugal. Any suggestions?

Se si riferisce ai nostri tour (di gruppo) in programma con cadenza regolare (tour di 1 giornata o di mezza giornata) questi si svolgono di norma in inglese ma possiamo garantire audioguide in italiano all'interno dei castelli. Se invece desideraste l'intero tour in italiano, avete la possibilità di prenotare un tour privato.

Hi Nathan Z - we only offer this tour from Munich as a private tour and the price per person becomes less the bigger the group is - this is why we do not offer it for one person.
To be able to join private tour the other party would have to be willing to join and would have to go at your preferred date - a situation that is unlikely to happen. So best would be to look for others to join you directly - or book a tour with big tour operators like greyline that organize large buses.....
