We took the tube to this area and it was really nice - there are walks along the canals and lake and boat trips as well. We walked around, had coffee and cakes at the Sechserbruecke Cafe - delicious homemade cakes - and then took a two hour boat trip around the lake and nearby rivers. There were shaded areas on the boat or sunny areas - good service from the waiters or you could go and order yourself. There was commentary too - but not intrusive. All in all a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. The nearby Haxen restaurant was really good - a great menu with something for everyone.

Old Tegel is really worth to visit.
Walk around. There are a lot of small houses and enough places to have a coffee, have very good ice cream and plenty restaurants.
And you can made Trips by boat.

Poco distante dal centro di Berlino, 5 minuti a piedi dal capolinea della metro marrone U6. Da gustarsi con qualche ora di sole. Possibile anche tornare verso il centro con uno dei battelli che scende il lago e prende uno dei canali verso il parco Tiergarten.

Ta U6 helt ut til endestasjonen "AltTegel" - gå over hovedgaten til venstre og snart ser du veiskilt som fører deg ned til sjøen "Tegler See" en skikkelig naturperle utenfor byen. Berlinere er her året rundt, som oftest med hele familien for å spasere langs sjøen, for å finne seg ei fint piknik plass eller finne seg en biergarten, cafe eller restaurant langs sjøen.
Andre går rett til bryggene med flere sightseeingsbåter for å være med på en cruise på sjøen. Her finnes det forskjellige alternativer for lengden på cruise og innhold, f. eks med lunsj- eller middagsservering - eller kaffe og kaker. Her trengs det ingen spesielle forberedelser for turen - det er bare å hoppe ut i det og nyde dagen. Lykke til

Alt Tegel ist ein sehr idyllischer Ort. Sowohl im Sommer als auch im Winter immer ein Besuch Wert. Ich mache sehr oft meine Spaziergänge dort. Im Sommer gibt es auch den Hafenfest mit Livemusik.

I discovered this beautiful part of Berlin due to the accommodation I had reserved for a conference. What I didn't know was what a gem this place is. At the end of the U6 line, you will find Alt Tegel. As you come out of the tube (go to the left exit), you will end up on Alt Tegel (the road). Surrounded by loads of restaurants of all varieties and cuisine, continue on this road and you will end up at the edge of the lake (Tegeler See). Here you can walk along the lake's edge, catch a cruise somewhere (I did not do this), or continue walking along until you find something that interests you. I'm very pleased I ended up staying here as I felt it was a bit more German, as opposed to the touristy centre of town, even though it is very international here too. It seems to be a place where locals come to unwind.

Berlin is well known for its excellent transport system and its beautiful 'green' surroundings . Go the end of U Bahn line number 6 and enjoy the semi rural setting of Alt Tegel , which has long been enjoyed by Berliners as a place to walk in the woods of take to the water and indulge themselves in , nowadays , any kind of food you can think of . Somewhat surprisingly it's twinned with Greenwich , hence the name of the road Greenwich Way and the red telephone box and letter box . Don't think many tourists make it this far and with Berlin full of demonstrators that day it was the perfect place to get away from it all . Just nice to watch Berliners enjoying their city , on foot , on bikes and on boats .

Bei schönen Wetter ist die Greenwichpromenade voll mit Menschen. Am Spätnachmittag/ frühen Abend wird es ruhiger. Zeit zum geniessen und entspannen. Der Sonnenuntergang ist traumhaft schön. Für wenig Geld kann man 1 Stunde bei Sonnenuntergang auf dem Tegeler See schippern.

Wir erkunden Jahr für Jahr Berlin Kiez für Kietz! Alt-Tegel mit der relativ neu gestalteten Uferpromenade, den Schiffsanlegern und den angrenzenden Wanderwegen ist es sicher wert, im Sommer noch einmal hierhin zu kommen! Die Erreichbarkeit mit S- oder U-Bahn vom Zentrum aus ist super.
