Bremen’s Old Town is like a mirage – a small piece of apparent civilisation in a city that otherwise makes an effort to look as uninhabitable as possible. Anyone who has crossed the no-gun zone at the station without puncture wounds, has not had to fight with junkies over the last square centimeters of sidewalk on the ramparts and has not already been relieved of cash, cell phones or the last remnants of his faith in humanity on the way here, may sit back for a moment.
Here, in the marketplace, Bremen almost looks like a real city. The town hall is still standing, Roland is looking stoically over the pavement, and even the dirt is limited – at least if you choose the right angles. The streets are lined with tourists who are unsure whether they have landed in a charming Hanseatic city or in a setting for a particularly grim sequence of crime scenes.
Of course, there is also something to experience here regularly – whether it is the latest anti-Semitic demonstration disguising itself as a “political discourse”, or just a few half-strengths confusing the concept of garbage disposal with the sidewalk in the Liebfrauenkirchhof.
But appearances are deceptive. If you lull yourself into safety for too long, it’s easy to forget that Bremen shows its true face just a few steps away: run-down facades, empty shops with “For Rent” signs, and a distinctive scent mix of urine, cheap beer and despair. So we enjoy the moment – before the city reminds us of where we really are.

Wonderful with pedestrian zone is the old town to reach. Very nice half-timbered houses and shops are waiting for the visitor.

We stayed here for one night to break a long journey. The old city is well worth a visit. There are lots of wonderful, old buildings to gaze at as you wander around the pedestrianised area. However, it’s the warm and friendly local people that inspired me to write a review. On two separate occasions, as studied our street map, people asked us whether they could help. Thank you, people of Bremen, for making us feel so welcome!

Bremen is the city that suffered the least damage during World War II. For this reason, this city has preserved its urban composition and traditional structures more than other German cities. Especially the historical square and the historical buildings built in it.

Wonderful city, with lots of historical attractions. Charm. Beck Factory and Airbus are also attractions. Hotel Atlantic is very well positioned and can be reached on foot.

The magical old town of Bremen is definitely worth a visit. The buildings were lavishly and authentically renovated after the destruction of the last war. At that time, Bremen was still a wealthy city.

Beautiful and spotlessly clean, the old town of Bremen in northern Germany! On one side of the large Marktplatz square, opposite the Town Hall, you will find the roller coaster with which you can tour the old town! Tickets must be purchased from the tourist office located on the picturesque Bottcherstrasse, which starts from the square and runs down to the river!
