KARSTADT is one of the biggest German shopping malls (like TESCO) and was founded here, in little sweet Wismar on the 14th of May 1881. What a surprise and showing that economy in Germany was never always driven in the big cities, but also in other places across the country. Today the chain has some 80 stores across the country and is well knon with every German citizen.
The store itself is nothing special, but the building is nicely restored and has this historical touch, which makes it worth visiting. Do not expect too much, but a place, where history took place.

A rather big departement store in a very small city... I like it, it's always worth to pop in and look around and it also has an interesting background.

als Historie wohl gedacht, aber im Inneren zeugt nur eine alte schicke Treppe und ein Hinterzimmer als "Kontor" von der Geschichte. Ansonsten ist es wirklich nur ein Warenhaus, das zugegebenermaßen für Wismar etwas überproportioniert erscheint.
Für mich muss man hier nicht unbedingt hin.

Karstadt es un gran almacén de compras que se encuentra en muchas ciudades alemanas, aquí en Wismar está ubicado en el centro de la ciudad.
El edificio exteriormente es bonito y su interior se divide en diferentes departamentos. Los artículos están bien de precio.
Es un buen lugar para comprar en Wismar.

Универмаг Карштат. Те, кто бывали в Германии, наверное встречали магазины этой фирмы. Но этот особенный- он первый. 137 лет назад Рудольф Карштат открыл в Висмаре маленький магазинчик. Дела пошли успешно и вскоре он вырос до такого большого универмага и завоевал другие города Германии.

Das Gebäude ist vor allem deswegen interessant, weil hier die Gründung der Kaufhauskette erfolgte. Ansonsten ist es das typische Kaufhaus, dass man in einem Ort der Größe Wismars erwartet. Ein schönes Beispiel dafür, dass vieles in Deutschland nicht in den großen Städten entwickelt wird, sondern in den mittelgroßen Städten.
Ganz gut geeignet, um Alltägliches zu holen.

Nice store and at the time there was a summer sale going on. Very effective since they stated that everything as put down by X% of the price. Easy to just change the % and not go around and redo all the tags :)
