It is located in the Domplatz and is a structure that recalls the northern entrance to the city in the Roman period; nearby there are still some remains of ancient walls but I am not sure that the Gate is an original (from the height of my ignorance, it seemed to me to be a reconstruction).

The Roman influence on Cologne was extensive, throughout the city there are lots of reminders of the Roman occupation of the city, it has to be remembered that Cologne or as it was known in Roman times Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium was the headquarters of the Roman Army and the capital of Germania ,in fact when Julius Ceaser set out to conquer these lands he formed an alliance with the Germanic tribe called the Ulii who he encountered on the East Bank of the River Rhine in 55 B.C ,he used this tribe to attack the city across the river.
This gateway looks superb, to me it's fascinating, another layer in the rich history of this amazing city to explore ,Roman North Gate ( Romisches Nordtor ) is easy to locate on Domkloster in the shadow of Cologne Cathedral and is well worth checking out if you're in the area or planning a holiday to Cologne.

In a corner of the Piazza del Duomo, you can see what appear to be the remains of an ancient building, but which are actually just a replica of the ancient north gate of the city which was part of the Roman walls. Enraptured by the grandeur of the Duomo, most tourists don't even notice the presence of this door.

Sono stato a vedere questi reperti con la mia ragazza in occasione di una vacanza a Colonia. Il sito si trova a un lato del Duomo, il monumento più iconico della città. Si tratta dei resti di un'antica porta e delle mura cittadine. Si tratta di un posto non troppo visitano né notato dai turisti che rimangono estasiati dall'imponente cattedrale. La storia che si può leggere su questo monumento è molto interessante, andrebbe valorizzato di più.

На внешней стороне центральной арки было написано название города: CCAA (Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium).
Северные ворота имели ширину 30,50 м и две квадратные башни длиной 7,60 м.
Этот боковой портал ворот является точной копией, оригинал находится в романо-германском музее.
Точная копия была восстановлена в 1971 году, над явно сохранившимися остатками римских городских ворот и стен.

The Roman North gate built when the colony was founded in 50 AD. The outer side of the central archway bore the city’s name: CCA Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium. One of the side portals was rebuilt in 1971 above the visibly preserved remains of the Roman City gate and wall. Allow ~15 min for your visit.
