Went here with some friends as we all have an interest in history.
The building is very non descript from outside, you’d never have known it was a prison.
Very interesting inside as the building has been left pretty much exactly as it was with all the cells and offices intact.
Unfortunately, and it was a real shame that all of the notices are in German and non of my group speak German.
You can kind of work out what most of the displays are about but would be SO much better if we could have read them all.
Still definitely worth a visit - free to get in.

Hier war ich vor kurzem und schaute mir sie Ausstellung an. Diese Zeit war lange vor meiner Geburt. Sehr informativ. Es gibt sogar ein Büchertauschregal 👍

Det er nødvendigt at besøge sådanne steder for at huske og forstå tiden med Sovjet og Stasi. Generelt meget informativt. Info tavler er desværre kun på tysk.

Dieser Ort ist sehr autenthisch. Besonders, wenn man den Audioguide dazu nimmt. Das Hörspiel, sowie die Zeitzeugen, sollte man nicht verpassen.

si tratta dei resti della vecchia prigione utilizzata dai russi post guerra e dalla Stasi ex servizio segreto della Germania Est fino al 1989. Nella parte Sovietica si vedono chiaramente le torture a cui erano sottoposti dai cosiddetti liberatori i tedeschi dell'est; ottimamente conservata (e volendo, tuttora funzionante) la prigione utilizzata dalla Stasi, che imprigionava i tedeschi per qualsiasi motivo anche il più futile....... Tutto ciò fa pensare agli innumerevoli soprusi e le torture che hanno dovuto sopportare i cittadini dell'est da parte della dittatura comunista.....povera gente, si capisce molto bene perché volevano scappare.

Es ist ein bedrückendes Thema, ein bedrückender Ort und dennoch ist es Geschichte dieses Landes, dieser Stadt. man kann sich ihr nicht entziehen. Wer mehr wissen will, wie das zu DDR-Zeiten mit Stasi usw war, sollte dieses Museum, dieses Gedenkstätte besuchen. Buchen Sie eine Führungen, denn gerade die Informationen lassen das Gebäude noch anders erleben.

Stasi prison/Gedenkstätte at bautzner str has been preserved since the end of the war in 1945. The once hidden, cold, under ground Soviet prison with bare concrete walls and floors smells of mildew and urine. It is truly disheartening to see this place where so many Germans were taken after the war.
A few signs are written in English but most are in German. The front desk has a 3 ring binder you can take with you and it explains some of the facility in English.
First you visit the underground prison which operated from 1945-53. After looking through that you can go through a tunnel to get to the prison which was used from 1953-1990, Putin’s ID card was found here, he worked here for five years.
There are rooms above the prison which are still the same - a large hall, offices, rooms. The Soviets could be celebrating upstairs while Germans were being interrogated and punished downstairs.
There is a 6 euro fee to enter for adults, kids are free. Hours are 10-6 pm on Saturday. Free parking at the building, a bit hard to find, located down a driveway and behind another building. There is a sign on the street.
It was a great opportunity to see how things were when the Soviets controlled East Germany.

Im Rahmen einer öffentlichen Führung haben wir uns das Museum angesehen. Sowohl die Aufarbeitung als auch die Präsentation hat uns wirklich beeindruckt.
Die Führung war wirklich sehr gut - sehr informativ, durchweg interessant. Vielen Dank dafür an die Mitarbeiter!

Sollte man besuchen um Einsicht über die Stasi zu bekommen. Es zeigt viele traurige Schicksale. Nachdenklich verlässt man das Museum. Schlimm sind die teilweisen Kommentare die im Besucherbuch zu lesen sind. Man sollte das Hirn zum denken verwenden, bevor man da reinschreibt

This is a prison that was in operation for dissenters in East Germany. The prison has been well preserved and I feel an important lesson can be learned by visiting here. Unfortunately, my German was not fluent enough to fully understand the things on display and for the vast majority of the prison there is no information in English; the folder I received from Reception with English information in it did not seem to cover all the things on display so I didn't get as good of a understanding as I would have liked. Still, this is worth a visit if you have an interest in the subject area and want to see something of East German Dresden.
