Deutsches Kleingärtner Museum (German Allotment Garderners Museum) in Aachener Strasse 7
Take tram 3, 7 or 15 from tram stop Hauptbahnhof (Central station) to get to Deutsches Kleingärtner Museum (German Allotment Garderners Museum) and travel to stop Waldplatz. Walk back on the platform, turn to the right and use the pedestrian crossing and you’ll find yourself at Willmar-Schwabe-Strasse. Walk one block and the behind the parked cars, you can see an information board about the museum that actually (September 2016) gives the wrong opening days. Turn to the right and next left (Aachener Strasse) that goes along the allotment fence. The entrance is at the wooden house with a tower on the left side of the street. The total distance of the walk is 300 meters.
The museum is open Tuesday-Thursday 10 am-4 pm. Additional opening hours during June- August are Saturday and Sunday 10 am-5 pm. Entrance fee for adults is 4,00 EUR. Reduced rate is 3,00 EUR, including pensioners. The museum is situated on the first floor in the listed building, so sorry no lift.
The museum is small but interesting giving the history of allotments I Germany. It shows some tools as well as a barrel-organ.
Among all allotments you find number 139 which houses one of the oldest sheds in Germany standing in the same place since the 1880s. The arrangement of the garden is a typical allotment from around 1900. In allotment 154 you can see four different types of sheds Krause-Shed 1896, Schneeberg-Shed 1890, Kirschbaum-Shed 1924 and Wassermann-Shed 1925.
