Andando verso il memorial di Laboe, la guida ci ha fatto notare questo bunker realizzato per difendere la popolazione civile dai bombardamenti. Kiel era una importante base navale e ci ha detto che è stata pesantemente bombardata distruggendo l’ottanta per cento degli edifici. A parte il valore storico, il bunker è una grossa struttura in cemento con pareti che ci han detto arrivano a dodici metri.

We heard the other side of the WW2 story from Jan, our economics undergraduate from Kiel university. It's a curious town, flattened by Allied bombing, so now wearing ugly (his word) brutallist architecture. Nevertheless, this monolith shows how ordinary citizens sheltered from the fire and fury. Depressing, admittedly but resolute too. Take a look at the fjord nearby and the Kiel Canal, buried down a quiet side turning. Understated. Yet, this engineering saved so much time sailing between the Baltic and North Seas. Also, worth visiting the quiet village of Holtenau on the other side of the canal and the Olympic village which hosted the 1972 sailing events, as Munich has no coastline. Take time with Kiel and it will share and teach you a lot.

The museum is housed in a former anti-aircraft bunker. The amazing two meter thick concrete walls give an idea and impression of wartime military construction. The exhibits are interesting and spread in various rooms up and down the stairs. There is a mix of historic displays and modern art exhibits. There is also access to an enclosed roof terrace. An interesting museum but a bit out of the way.

Our tour guide pointed this structure out to us. He explained it had been built somewhere between 1943 and 1944. It was built to protect people during the bombings of World War II. The structure could hold about 750 people. Its ceiling was 13 feet thick; its walls 8 feet thick. It is just another haunting (and creepy) reminder of the horror of that war.

På en tilfældig cykeltur kom vi forbi, og kikkede indenfor, og blev mødt af en kustode, der var meget optaget af stedet, og da vi var Danskere, blev det en oplevelse af fortællekunst man sjældent oplever.
Herefter gik vi rundt i 11/2 time for at se og høre om mennesker i og udenfor bunkeren, det har været et kæmpe arbejde, bare at bygge den.
Helt sikkert et besøg værd ( lidt tysk kundskaber vil være godt )

Si se quiere ver y visitar uno de los pocos edificios que quedaron en pie, en la ciudad de Kiel, tras las Segunda Guerra Mundial, hay que conocer este bunker de la guerra, Flandernbunker.
Fue construído entre los años 1942 y 1943. Se encuentra ubicado en el extremo norte de la Calle Hindenburgufer, en la zona de Kiel conocida como Wik, junto a Kiellinie, por enfrente del puerto marítimo.
El edificio restaurado y en buen estado de conservación, consta de varias plantas. Se muestra en el interior exposiciones de interés, documentos, fotos y de más objetos todo sobre la guerra mundial. La información está en alemán. Es uno de los pocos edificios que quedó en pie tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando la ciudad quedó completamente destruída.
Desde el año 2005 es Monumento Histórico.
La entrada general de adulto cuesta 4 euros.
