We went to Cordoba on Wednesday when most of famous Cordoba patios were closed. However we were still able to see a couple of patios which were open by owners. All he had to do was to find an open door with some message like "See patio" and leave a small donation. Patios were filled with greenery and flowers. Beautiful!

We visited in mid-September so the patios were not as full of blooms as they would be in summer but they were still colourful and amazing to visit and not as busy as they would be when it is the festival in May. The owners were all very welcoming and friendly.

The Courtyards Festival of Cordoba completed three days before we arrived in Cordoba. Our local tour guide, took us down a few streets to find some patios that had flowers, the ones we saw were nice, but clearly not the contenders.

We came to Córdoba but not during the May festival. I wasn't sure what to expect and while we certainly didn't see a lot of beautiful patios, we also didn't really attempt to research much beforehand where they might be and/or search them out once there. We had our twin toddlers with us, it was mid-July 2022 so it was HOT and we had other things higher on our list of things to do. Still, we managed to see a couple without too much effort.
The limited bit of research I did prior was finding a map from their previous festival (May 2022) and using that as a starting point. Most patios I noticed were farther away than we were willing to walk - of the 6 sections, 4 were farther east. Of the 3 we saw or attempted to see, all were in the Alcázar Viejo section of the map. I found the map on the turismo de Cordoba . org website via their schedule section and by finding "The Courtyards Festival of Cordoba - World Heritage" part.
We saw San Basilio, 40 and San Basilio, 50 (the address outside shows 50 but I think on google maps, it shows 44 - might be specific to one of the shops inside this little market area). At #40, there was a woman who talked to us, showed us around a little bit and was taking care of the flowers. My son didn't want to leave the little fountain with the fish inside. We left a small donation. At #50, it was very impressive but I didn't feel like I could linger as much so I just quickly popped in, took pictures & left (didn't see a donation tray).
We tried to stop by Martín de Roa, 7/9. The first time, it was 8:30pm and it said it was only open until 8pm. When we came back again during normal hours, the doors were still closed and locked. My understanding is that they adhere to the hours during the festival but outside of that, you would have to do some digging as to which ones are open at all and if so, when.

Ένα από τα πιο δημοφιλή αξιοθέατα της Κόρδοβα είναι τα patios (αυλές) της πόλης. Πρόκειται για κήπους, τοίχους σπιτιών και δρόμων, με πολύχρωμα παρτέρια και γλάστρες λουλουδιών. Η αγάπη και η παράδοση στη φροντίδα των λουλουδιών είναι εμφανής σε όλες τις περιοχές της πόλης. Είναι χαρακτηριστικό ότι το πρώτο 15θήμερο κάθε Μαίου, διοργανώνεται η γιορτή των patios. Συμμετέχουν πολλά από τα σπίτια με κήπους της πόλης, η είσοδος είναι ελεύθερη για τους επισκέπτες και οι καλύτεροι κήποι βραβεύονται. Μια οποιαδήποτε βόλτα στο ιστορικό κέντρο της Κόρδοβα θα σας προσφέρει απλόχερα ευκαιρίες να θαυμάσετε τις όμορφες αυτές εκθέσεις λουλουδιών, όλο το χρόνο.

If you’re fortunate to be in Córdoba during the first two weeks of May, be prepared to attend the world-renowned Fiesta de la Patios de Córdoba. It’s a government-sponsored exhibition by homeowners of their private courtyards (aka “patios”) which can feature modest to ostentatious displays of flowers, shiny pots, decorated fountains, miscellaneous ornaments, and everything in-between. A patio in this part of Spain is a cultural tradition – not only a product of physical survival to avoid the day’s heat (patios with running water tend to be significantly cooler than the outside) but also a venue of social gathering.
Those that we saw during the festival were at times outstanding. Occasionally, we were slightly underwhelmed, but only on the basis of how long we had waited in line. Therein lies the rub. Los Patios de Córdoba doesn’t allow for unfettered viewing; it’s regulated. Each of these patios is located within someone’s residence, and there are designated officials (usually young folk in late teens or early 20s) who manage entry so that there isn’t overcrowding. Since some of these patios are particularly well-decorated, word gets out fast and the crowds begin to congregate.
We did well by visiting some of these patios on the Thursday night of our arrival in Cordoba. At that time, lines for entry were negligible. We had no idea what was in store the next day which happened to kick off the final weekend of the festival. Evidently a LOT of people come to Cordoba from Seville on the weekends, and on this weekend, it felt like the whole city descended upon us. We managed to visit a few homes on Saturday, but sadly, many of the lines were too long to even bother. We did spend nearly an hour to visit the home that had been awarded this year’s prize, and quite frankly, I’m not sure it was worth it. Sure, the flower arrangements and water fountain made for an exceptional viewing experience, but we had seen many other residences with nearly as good displays where the line took a fraction of the time.
In sum, Cherry Wonderdog strongly recommends Los Patios de Córdoba but advises loyal followers to be strategic. Try to avoid weekends if possible, particularly the last weekend of the festival. Evenings are always better, especially during normal eating hours. And don’t assume that a long line is commensurate with quality. Instead of intelligent dogs, many people behave like stupid sheep and congregate where others are waiting. Be adventurous. This is a free event, and sometimes the most beauty is found where it’s least expected.

Existen algunas casas-patio privadas que están abiertas durante todo el año. Al ser casas-patio privadas existe la posibilidad de contratar algunas rutas pagando el correspondiente importe.

We are planning to visit Cordoba to witness beautiful patios in first week of November.
Need to ask if the flowers will be in bloom at that time of the year as seen in the pictures.

I’m back again. There are several patios open in November. Opening times are 10.00-14.00 hours and 17.00 to 19.00 hours.
They are in the same are as the May Patio Festival.

I'll visit Cordoba next week, unfortunately, before the festival begins. Would it be better to go at 3rd May(Fri) to avoid crowds? Or would it be better to get there at 4th May(Sat), the day closer to the festival?
