For over a century they have captured the imagination and entertained people everywhere.
Multitudes of great artefacts in this superlative museum give an absorbing history of the evolution of the moving, and before that the still, image.
Full credit to Tomàs Mallol, a filmmaker and artist, who dedicated a lifetime to his passion for cinema and moving images and assembled thousands of key items in their marvellous history.
From the early days of the 1800s onwards Camera Obscura and analogous image makers intrigued those of the public who were fortunate to come across them. An Edison Phonograph with its megaphone and wax disc illustrates developments in capturing and replaying sounds including the human voice.
A further seminal event was in 1878 when the photographer Eadweard Muybridge produced the first series of an animal in motion, utilising 12 adjacent cameras.
A plethora of projectors are displayed covering many decades and all documenting progress in the quest for flawless cinemas.
In the foyer is a large great sculpture of a mounted array of silver cylindrical boxes traditionally used to store reels of film.

In the museum you can get acquainted with the history of theater and cinema. Here there are such rare exhibits as a camera obscura; the first film projector of the Lumiere brothers, which appeared in the 19th century; as well as optical illusions created with the help of mirrors and the play of light.

A really interesting museum. Toilets are on the ground floor though so use them before you go in. Some fun exhibits a good price too

Creo que es un lugar mágico, en el se explica los inicios de la fotografía y el cine, te puedes encontrar artilugios fascinantes como cámaras oscuras, zootropos, visión binocular, linterna mágica, y los inicios de la fotografía 3D manua y .calidoscopio etc...

I absolutely loved this museum. Very clearly laid out. Lots to see and do. Had great fun playing with the digitised magic lantern images. Lots of short films to see. Friendly staff, and a really interesting exhibition on the spectator.

C'est un incontournable pour ceux qui aiment le cinéma et qui passe à Gérone. Du début du cinéma à nos jours. Visite audio et vidéo. Visite qui peut durer jusqu'à 2h pour un prix raisonnable de 6 €.

Genial. Podría haber estado allí horas y horas (una pena que cerraran). Es chulísimo, muy didáctico e interactivo. Es genial para niños y mayores. Aprendes muchísimo del cine desde los comienzos de la fotografía y cómo se sentían las primeras personas que veían una imagen simple en movimiento. Es fantástico.
Además la persona que lo atiende es muy amable.
Para mí uno de los mejores museos de Girona. Altamente recomendable.
