The Best There Is

I learned about Spanish Trails from my dermatologist in Winston-Salem. We are both avid travelers & if she recommends a resource, it is going to be good. How right I was. We took their Toledo day trip from Madrid & it was superb. Our guide, Rio, spoke flawless English. We thought he was a US ex-pat but he is a Spanish national who knows how to guide & his knowledge was deep. Our lunch break was exceptional. The local restaurant in Toledo served an exceptional menu & it was our best meal of our Madrid stay! Look no further. You really can’t find a better provider than Spanish Trails.

Really enjoyed our tour with Rio to Cuenca and the Enchanted City yesterday. We have used ST in Barcelona and love the intimacy of small groups and the comfort of their vans. This truly is a small, boutique tour company and guides are knowledgeable and personable. A lovely day out of the city!

Toledo and windmill tour with Rio

One of the best experiences so far on our Spain trip. Rio was really easy to talk to, friendly, funny, and informative. He also took us to a fantastic restaurant for lunch in Toledo. We really couldn’t have asked for a better tour. Thank you!!!

Outstanding way to get to know Madrid

We enjoyed a terrific tour of Madrid with Nacho. Packed with information, wonderful on history, hit so many highlights. This tour is the perfect in-depth introduction to Madrid. Nacho was an enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable guide. We've taken 3 tours with Spanish Trails and recommend them most highly.

We booked a trip To Segovia and Pedroza,with Spainish Trails and it was great.Our guide Rio was fantastic.The villages are a must see.Plenty of historic things here.We lunched at a local restaurant,where we were served meals that were plentiful and very tasty.A great day.

Segovia & Pedraza Day AND Toledo & Windmills Day Trips

Also guided tours to and through the cities are not my favorite way to explore foreign places, from time to time, however, I decide on a tour in a group. This time the decision came easy because of pleasant memories of previous experiences with Spanish Trails. On September 21st I went to Segovia & Pedraza with a small group guided by Anouk. We met us in the center of Madrid. The trip was quite relaxing, in a comfortable car, the tour guide was communicable and quite knowing on the matter of travel destinations.
Having already good experience with Spanish Trails in past, we decided to take another tour on the next day to Toledo and famous windmills. This time we were just two of us and the guide Rio took care of all our wishes concerning pace and length of visiting at any destination. As in previous time, we were satisfied with this experience.

Tasting Madrid Food & Wine Tour

Our first trip to Spain was a brief 48 hour exit point to our three week European vacation. We wanted to do something that gave us a feel of the local environement of Madrid.

Spanish Trails company was recommended to us by a local Alaskan who has a wealth of travel experience. My lady and I booked the Tasting Madrid Food & Wine tour - our group was small (us and another pleasant couple we met on tour) and our guide, Nacho.

Nacho is beyond a wealth of information, formal and informal, regarding history, sites, foods, customs, and the people of Spain. His insights into food, drink, and out of the way establishments (off the beaten pathways) helped us enjoy a more unique and meaningful experience. This was not a cookie-cutter large group tour type package.

Highly recommended for folks who enjoy smaller groups, intimate conversation, and experiencing variety in tapas and libations.

Wonderful small group day trips

I found Spanish Trails on Tripadvisor before heading to Madrid last week. I'm not a big fan of the big bus tours. They are okay but often don't allow for personal free time to explore on your own. Spanish Trails had a lot of great reviews for Barcelona so we gave them a try for Madrid. We met our guide Rio at Museo Reina Sofia...it is an easy meeting spot. We had 2 consecutive day trips. The first one was to Segovia and the 2nd day was Toledo. We loved them both but Toledo/windmill tour was our absolute favorite! Rio was an amazing guide....engaging, knowledgeable and warm. He was perceptive as well. We adored the family owned shops he took us after the tour in Toledo. I highly recommend this tour company.

Windmills of Consuegra

My wife and I booked a day tour to Toledo and Consuegra in October. As we were the only ones booked for the tour we paid a small supplement for a private tour. First we travelled to Toledo and, after a photo stop overlooking the town we joined the free city tour. This was a comprehensive tour of Toledo at a reasonable pace which allowed time for photos. After a good lunch in Toledo we travelled to Consuegra to visit the partly restored castle and the windmills. My main reason for taking this tour was to visit the windmills ( there are 12 ) and I was not disappointed. Rio, our guide for the day was a great travelling companion, very efficient and knowledgeable. This tour is a full day as we did not return to Madrid until early evening.

Two excellent day trips

Having used Spanish trails in Barcelona (Montserrat) and being very pleased with the guide and the lunch, we signed up for two trips while in Madrid:
- Segovia and Pedraza with Rio
- Toledo with Anouk

Both guides were excellent. Being the only two on the tours, in Toledo we were able to visit the cathedral which for us, was more interesting than seeing windmills. The lunch in Toledo was very good.
Unfortunately we cannot say the same about the lunch in Segovia and this is why we removed a star for the overall experience. You can see my review of Jose bar restaurant on trip advisor.

Dear guests, Thank you very much for your comments about your Toledo & Windmills day trip (which spontaneously turned into a full day Toledo visit), and your Segovia & Pedraza day trip. We're very happy that you enjoyed your tours with Anouk and Río. We were surprised to read that you were not satisfied with your lunch in Segovia, as we usually receive good feedback from our guests about this restaurant. Our lunches are an important part of the day, and it is not acceptable that a restaurant doesn't live up to our standards. Obviously we do require consistency from the estabishments we work with. Since that day trip we have made a thorough local research and have been going to a different restaurant on our Segovia & Pedraza day trips, with excellent feedback from our guests and guides. We are very sorry that this lunch didn't live up to your expectations.
