You have an inkling that something is up when your 10 year old daughter states; “I really, really, truthfully and until l’m sick, want to go to Rome”. No parental pressure then. The crux of the experience would be finding a tour guide that would educate yet interest the now not-so-ankle-biter. As a family, the three of us could possibly bumble around the sights, reading from a tour book, stating “ Ooo, look at this because...”. Plus, the three hour queue is part of the experience, surely? How many kids listen to their parents on a daily basis, let alone when faced with the magnitude of the Colosseum? Hence we booked a Kids Tours in Rome for the Colosseum, Forum and Palatine Hill. Angelica was the guide in the frame, and flippin’ excellent! Everything was aimed at our daughter, Mum & Dad were add-ons, yet we both learnt a thing or two. Explanations of the all pertinent points were addressed only to our daughter, questions asked and answers sought were only from our daughter, prizes were only awarded to the same, and there were a fair few! The three hour tour morphed into nearly four. No rush, no “move quicker”. A great experience with a great guide, with the administrative back-up required. The value for money? Having met up with old university pal, who’s married to a Roman with two children and spent 20 years as a tour guide in the city, he could not believe the value of the tour! If you want to reinforce UK school Roman and Greek lessons in Year 4, do this.

Our family of 4 (with an 11yr + 9yr) did the Colosseum and Roman Forum tour with Serena, in July this year. It was our last day of the holiday, so everyone was exhausted. Serena contacted us the day before to organise a meeting point and was waiting for us at the spot the next morning. The Colosseum was packed the day we went, and with Serena, we were able to miss all the queues to get inside and then she knew how to navigate us around, so that we had ample shade (it was stinking hot too!) but also the best vantage points for me to take photos and for the kids to imagine what it was like in ancient times. She made the history come alive for the kids and was happy to answer all of their questions. The kids didn't want to go to the Roman Forum, but when we did, they loved it! They were hot and tired but Serena had games and prizes for the kids which was an added bonus! She made it interesting for my partner and I, so the family as a whole, had an amazing experience.

We had the privilege of having 2 tours with Francesca through Kids Tours In Rome. We did a 2.5-3 hour tour of the Vatican one day and a 2.5-3 hour tour of the Colosseum and Roman Forum another. Francesca was an absolute gem! She brought along a bag with books to help our kids- age 5 and 8- understand the history. She made sure they were equipped with water and snack (and even bought them some candy), stopped at appropriate points along the way to explain things and let us rest. At the end of each tour she had a gift for the kids. Everything was so thoughtful, knowledgeable, and age- appropriate. She also remembered things that the kids liked and included them along the way. Our daughter loves to draw so she worked in a stop on Palentine hill for her to stop and draw what she saw.
Aside from the specifics of our guide, having the private tours arranged was 100% worth every penny. We met our guide at a specified location and didn't have to worry about buying the tickets, figuring out which line to go in, where to go first, etc. We would have been very overwhelmed if we had tried to do this on our own. I would recommend everyone contact Kids Tours in Rome for your next family tours of this amazing city.

tour they had. Francesca was our guide through the Roman Forum and the Coliseum. The tour ended being a private tour although not booked as such. It lasted as promised, I believe 3-4 hours. My 16 year old son and 14 year old daughter were fully engaged. Francesca's presentation of history was interesting for both teens and myself. She has a very good sense of humor and a great way with children. They had a quiz competition going through the sites which made it even more interesting. They continued to be very excited about the tour long into that evening.

I decided to book this tour of the Colosseum and the Forum as we travelled to Rome with our 3 children who were 6,6 and 8. I wanted them to be able to gain an understanding of this historical sight without getting bored and tired with your normal tours filled with groups of adults walking around and blocking their view and perhaps not really understanding what the guide may be saying.
I did not realise this was a private tour when I was booking it but I found out that the tour guide would just be for our family and once you email the company they advice you what dates and times are available with a tour guide. Once you agree on that they send you an email with a link to buy the ticket entry to the Colosseum but you then have to send them confirmation of this as they pick the tickets up for you when you get there.
We met our tour guide, MARTA, at 8:30am which was a lovely sunny morning and she was super friendly and the kids took an instant liking to her. She began explaining all about the exterior of the Colosseum and showed them pictures on her IPAD of what it might have looked like in the past for them to be able to imagine it in their minds.
I have to say she kept the children so engaged and kept feeding them such interesting information. There was a point chart that she had for the kids group and the adults (me and their dad) and who ever could answer her questions correctly throughout the tour got the most points. She let the children take it in turn to be responsible for the chart and to add the points. She answered all the questions they had and they had a lot of questions which was surprising. ...no question was a silly question for her and even if she had to repeat herself she did it graciously (when if it was me I would have said " I already told you that!").
I have to say even as an adult I took in so much information and I loved every minute of it. When she thought the kids may be flagging a little she asked me if it was okay to give them a little chocolate egg for energy. At the end, as winner, each child received a gladiator figure which they actually played with throughout the rest of the holiday and took them everywhere.
I would definitely recommend this tour for kids as they learnt so much and Marta was absolutely amazing!!!

We took the 2.5 hour walking tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill today. I had second thoughts about booking as realised we could have had an audio guide or join an onsite tour for much less but I am SOOO glad we booked. Rosa was fantastic from the outset and really made a huge difference to our experience of the sites. She really went out of her way to make sure the kids (10 and 13) were engaged throughout, noticing when they got tired or distracted and adjusting the tour accordingly. She made sure our tired and hungry boy didn't get bored when he showed signs of waning and had lots of tricks for engaging him on the tour - like showing him how Roman boys met up and played in the forum with stones etc. Really glad we booked and would highly recommend this tour for families particularly to get the most out of a visit to these already amazing sites. Thank you Rosa for the tour and Claudia for the excellent pre trip communication and very responsive replies to my many emails! If you're early risers I'd get a morning tour, bring some sandwiches and stay on at the Palatine Hill after the tour as there's lots to see if you're not in a rush afterwards.

Contratamos esta opción al viajar con 2 niños de 8 y 4 años. Romina fue una guía excelente, no sólo por sus conocimientos y pasión por su trabajo que transmite con entusiasmo, también por la buena relación que estableció con los niños y con nosotros.
Entramos al Coliseo sin colas, estuvimos durante una hora y media embobados con la maravilla del monumento y lo que nos contaba y luego otra hora más en el Foro aprendiendo un montón.
La excursión al Vaticano no pudimos hacerla al ser Semana Santa y no estar garantizada la apertura de la Basílica y la capilla Sixtina, pero si volvemos a Roma, les llamaremos de nuevo, seguro.
Un abrazo para Anna y Romina, mil gracias por todo!
Entramos al Coliseo sin colas, estuvimos durante una hora y media embobados con la maravilla del monumento y lo que nos contaba y luego otra hora más en el Foro aprendiendo un montón.

After 5 weeks in Europe, I booked a last minute Coloseum Tour for the (3) kids as a surprise. The kids rolled their eyes (brats) and said, "do we have to?" I am telling you this so you know, our beautiful and vivacious guide Francesca was starting from a low base. She not only turned them around with her enthusiasm and intellegence but my 9 year old son said it was the best part of his overseas trip. High praise indeed.
Easy to book and very reasonably priced. Worth every cent.

Yes with the tour you skip the line but you do have to go through security when you get inside but that is quick

Hi Kids Tours in Rome. I'm interested in a tour of the Colosseum and Forum with my 3 kids ages 12, 10, and 10. Does this tour go into underground areas and into the higher levels that one can't get into with regular admission?
