Kościół - bliźniak, zlokalizowany przy Piazza del Poppolo. Bardzo ciekawe doświadczenie, można powiedzieć że dwoi się w oczach. Jest to także kościół artystów, gdyż często są tutaj urządzane wystawy.

Situada na Piazza del Popolo, é uma pequena basílica em estilo barroco, construída na segunda metade do séc. XVII.
Como costuma acontecer com grande parte das igrejas, esta foi construída por cima de um outro templo mais antigo.
O interior tem uma forma circular, com alguns pequenos altares. O altar principal é interessante e a decoração no geral é bonita.
Ao lado está a Igreja de Santa Maria de Miracoli, quase igual por fora, a diferença que notei foi apenas nas estátuas em pedra, em cima do telhado.
Como costuma acontecer com grande parte das igrejas, esta foi construída por cima de um outro templo mais antigo.
O interior tem uma forma circular, com alguns pequenos altares. O altar principal é interessante e a decoração no geral é bonita.
Ao lado está a Igreja de Santa Maria de Miracoli, quase igual por fora, a diferença que notei foi apenas nas estátuas em pedra, em cima do telhado.

Nota anche come Chiesa degli Artisti, si trova in Piazza del Popolo a Roma ed è la gemella dell'adiacente Santa Maria dei Miracoli; mi è piaciuta molto di più, se non altro per la migliore illuminazione interna che ci ha consentito di ammirarla per bene; pianta circolare con varie Cappelle molto belle tutto intorno e tra queste la Cappella che contiene la Pietà di Jago, la Cappella delle Anime del Purgatorio, la Cappella Montioni; molto bello l'Altare principale e singolari le piccole sculture che descrivono le Stazioni della Via Crucis; bella.

The twin churches on the Piazza del Popolo have always intrigued us; and, we have been trying to see the insides for many years. It has taken us several trip to Rome to find this church open. We realized it was open because of an exhibition. On display was a very modern “Pieta” sculpted by JAGO (Jacopo Cardillo, Frosinone – 1987) from Naples.
Popularly known as the Church of the Artists, most visitors will look at these two churches standing side by side and think they are twins, but they are not. The one on the right has a round dome and the left one has an oval dome, as the lot on which the left one sits on is smaller. Santa Maria in Montesanto was originally designed by Carlo Rainaldi in 1662 and finished by Carlo Fontana in 1675, who was supervised by his brilliant teacher, Bernini. The church was named Montesanto (Holy Mountain), which refers to the Mt. Carmel in Israel. There are beautiful statues that stand guard outside the basilica most known for the Mass of the Artists. On each Sunday, Mass is held and read by artists and animated by music.

Il nome vero è basilica di Santa Maria in Montesanto deriva dal fatto che essa sostituì una piccola chiesa che apparteneva ai frati Carmelitani della provincia di Monte Santo in Sicilia. Sita tra la via del lusso via del Babbuino e la centralissima via del Corso, da su piazza del Popolo. Fa parte delle cosiddette chiese gemelle (insieme a Santa Maria dei miracoli). I lavori furono commissionati da Alessandro VII e iniziarono nel 1662 conclusi nel 1679 sopra la supervisione del Bernini. Dal 1825 ha titolo di basilica minore.
Viene chiamata degli artisti per la "Messa degli artisti", una singolare iniziativa ideata nel 1941 da Ennio Francia dopo aver cambiato diversi luoghi per il culto, la manifestazione liturgica trovò sede nella chiesa di piazza del Popolo dove tutte le domeniche, da oltre sessant'anni, viene celebrata questa celebrazione eucaristica cui prendono parte rappresentanti del mondo della cultura e dell'arte; è in questa chiesa inoltre che vengono spesso celebrate le esequie di persone legate al mondo della cultura e della televisione.
All interno spicca nell'altare maggiore spicca la Vergine di Montesanto una tavola del XVI secolo.
Nella seconda cappella a destra è collocata la pala della Cena di Emmaus (1982) dipinta da Riccardo Tommaso Ferroni.

La basilica rientra sicuramente tra i gioielli di Roma , di architettura barocca da Gianlorenzo Bernini , costruita nel seicento , con l'interno riccamente affrescato , spazio sacro di rilevanza storica e luogo in cui il teatro , la musica e lo spettacolo trovano un posto per celebrare religiosamente il loro valore oltre la vita .
La chiesa deve il suo nome , " degli artisti " , alla tradizione liturgica da circa 70 anni tutte le domeniche si tiene una particolare celebrazione eucaristica cui prendono parte esponenti del mondo della cultura e dell'arte .
Fino alla fine del febbraio ospita un gruppo scultoreo, rivisitazione contemporanea della Pietà .

Questa Chiesa è all'inizio di via del Corso, adiacente a Piazza del Popolo e di fronte alla Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli.
Contrariamente a quest'ultima, la Chiesa di Santa Maria in Montesanto era chiusa e ne ho potuto ammirare solo l'esterno

Varcata porta Flaminia, antico ingresso di una delle vie consolari più antiche, si vedono bene le chiese gemelle cresciute diverse, costruite, per volere di papa Alessandro VII, da Carlo Rainaldi, e successivamente completate dal Bernini con la collaborazione di Carlo Fontana.
Quella di sinistra, che nasce come Santa Maria in Montesanto, noi la chiamiamo "la chiesa degli artisti".
Questo perché è divenuta la sede abituale della messa a cui partecipano esponenti di arte e di cultura, il luogo in cui si celebrano i funerali di gente dello spettacolo, del cinema e della televisione.
Roma non è una città come le altre, è un grande museo, un salotto da attraversare in punta di piedi.
Quella di sinistra, che nasce come Santa Maria in Montesanto, noi la chiamiamo "la chiesa degli artisti".
Questo perché è divenuta la sede abituale della messa a cui partecipano esponenti di arte e di cultura, il luogo in cui si celebrano i funerali di gente dello spettacolo, del cinema e della televisione.

Chiesa Santa Maria in Montesanto is a more attractive twin sister of Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli. Both churches form kind of a gateway to one of the most popular piazzas in Rome, Piazza Del Popolo.
I visited Chiesa Santa Maria in Montesanto during the evening service with very few people inside.
The interior is simple and graceful; the oval shaped ceiling is especially attractive.
Bernini participated in the design of the exterior with its beautiful statues.

Santa Maria di Montesanto owes its name to a church that was previously located at the beginning of via del Babuino run by the Reforned Carmelites friars of Monte Santo in Sicily, and dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Pope Alexander VII promoted several initiatives to improve the section of Via del Corso from Piazza Colonna (where his family palace was located) to Piazza del Popolo.
In 1661 he commissioned Carlo Rainaldi the design of two churches at the northern end of the street so that they would provide a monumental entrance to Rome in conjunction with the gate and the obelisk.
The two churches are not identical.
Santa Maria in Montesanto was built first and it has an elliptical dome, whereas that of S. Maria dei Miracoli is circular.
The construction of the two churches was mainly financed by Cardinal Girolamo Gastaldi, a member of a wealthy Genoese family, who obtained to be buried with his brother at the side of the main altar of S. Maria dei Miracoli. The churches were completed in 1681 and their final design was based on advice given by Bernini.
The bell tower by Francesco Navone dates back to the the eighteenth-century.
The interior has an elliptical plan with a dodecagonal dome, dominated by the white of the beautiful stuccos, which gives an overall tone of elegance.
The six side chapels are variously and richly polychrome.
Notheworty: in the third left chapel (Chapel Montioni), an altarpiece with 'The Virgin with Child and Saints James the Great and Francis of Assisi by Carlo Maratta (1687), 'St. James Major curing a cripple" by Daniel Seiter, "The Apparition of Mary" by Luigi Garzi and the fresco 'The Assumption of Our Lady' by Giuseppe Chiari.
On the main altar there is the miraculous image of the Virgin of Monte Santo, a 16th century work.
The church is known for being "the church of artists", linked over the years to the artistic and literary world of via del Babuino and via Margutta, and, in general, to all artists, actors, directors, writers, poets of Rome, whose celebrations and funerals often take place here.
Interesting but not easy to visit for its opening and closing hours.
