This church dominates the view of the city. She is beautiful from a distance, and you have a beautiful view of the city and the sea.

...we only managed to visit the Duomo.
The ride from Offagna, Jesi and Ancona was long and time flew.
But the choice was perfect!
This Cathedral represents the emblem of Ancona, both for its geographical position and for its historical and religious significance.
It is also one of the most interesting medieval churches in the Marche, where there are Byzantine and Gothic elements.
The rest of the city we leave x another visit! 😉

The origins of the Cathedral of San Ciriaco (the Cathedral of Ancona) date back to the fourth century BC and was the temple of Aphrodite, the patron saint of navigators.
Around the fifth century AD the Basilica of San Lorenzo was built on what remained of the original temple.
In the 11th century it became the Cathedral of Ancona.
We have to wait until the twelfth-thirteenth century to see the transformation into what we see today, namely a Greek cross plan with a central dome.
The Cathedral mixes many architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine.
Inside, to visit is the crypt.
On the day of our visit there was a wedding with many people, which did not prevent us from visiting it with care.
Last, but not least, is the beautiful panorama that you can see from the front forecourt.

Well worth the walk up the hill from the port amazing buildings and views on the way up. A beautiful cathedral with another piece of the true cross on display.

Very beautiful both internally and the view. You go up by car and there are some free parking spaces. It is a must visit.

The cathedral of San Ciriaco is certainly worth a visit, furthermore at this height you can enjoy a panoramic view of the port and beyond. For those who want to go on foot there is also a staircase which however is not well maintained.

located high above the port of Ancona, the 2 crypts located in the side naves are very beautiful, the portal is very beautiful externally. the square in front is panoramic where you can see the port, the Vanvitellian mole and the domes of the other churches nearby.

Buongiorno ho mia figlia di 8mesi che vorrei battezzare, vivo da poco in Ancona è volevo sapere se al interno della chiesa si effettua le messe?? I battessimi??Visto che la chiesa è bellissima...

Buongiorno, non sono di Ancona però quando ho visitato la cattedrale di San Ciriaco era in corso la Santa Messa delle 12 della domenica. quindi penso proprio che si effettueranno i battesimi
