This was perhaps the one place I wanted the most to see in Bologna
On the east side of Basilica di San Petronio, just off Piazza Maggiore, only a few € to enter, and all that history of learning which had been brought together as the seat of Learning in the heart of the city.
The courtyard with its loggia and colonnades, the stairway and the 6000 coats of arms; but above all the Anatomical Theatre - what an extraordinary space - faced with pinewood and with a coffered ceiling displaying Apollo surrounded by 14 constellations, and that lecture seat with the canopy, supported by 2 naked, skinless men, upon which is a female allegory of Anatomy receiving a 'floral' tribute from a cherub - in the form of a femur bone.
Secondly, the Stabat Mater Hall - for the Law Students - now used for conferences...coats of arms, frescos, monuments..imagine being a student here.

A fascinating building that predates almost all other universities everywhere. Students are lucky if they can learn in such a beautiful setting. There are not many places where you can see old Bologna and how advanced it was compared to the rest of Europe.

L'archiginnasio è una testimonianza fantastica della storia culturale di bologna, sede di una delle più antiche università al mondo. All'interno della struttura è possibile percorrere la storia dell'università e delle tante figure importanti che vi hanno insegnato. Straordinaria la visita al teatro anatomico a cui si accede al primo piano.

Tutta la storia bolognese racchiusa in un solo luogo. Peccato non aver visitato il teatro anatomico per la lunga fila.

La entrada al edificio antiguo de la Universidad es libre y permite visitar algunas de sus estancias, patio central, con decoración mural de escudos, etc. Por sólo 3€ se accede a la fastuosa sala Stabat Mater y su teatro anatómico, donde tenían lugar las disecciones en las clases de medicina, de 1637, restaurado en 1944 a causa de los bombardeos de la IIGM. No se puede visitar la biblioteca un tesoro arquitectónico del siglo XVI.

...in visita a Bologna per via di un viaggio organizzato...con la guida ho visto solamente dall'esterno questo meraviglioso Palazzo Archiginnasio di Bologna!!...che è uno dei Palazzi più significativi della città!!...si trova proprio nel centro storico...fu sede dell'antica Università ed è ora sede della Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio!!...è uno degli edifici più importanti di Bologna!!..si dice che la realizzazione dell'Archiginnasio fu commissionata da Papa Pio IV per mezzo del Cardinale Carlo Borromeo e del suo vice Pier Donato Cesi che assegnarono il progetto ad Antonio Morandi!!...ai tempi l'obiettivo era quello di riunire in un solo centro gli insegnamenti universitari relativi alle varie discipline!!...il Palazzo si presenta su due piani con porticato anteriore e cortile centrale a doppio ordine di logge!!…tanti stemmi importanti e vari affreschi!!…tutto quello che ho visto!!…ma veramente bello!!...

A pochissimi passi da Piazza Maggiore, per 3 € offre la visita di un bellissimo teatro anatomico, meravigliosamente intarsiato in legno e di una ampia sala, attualmente utilizzata per convegni e riunioni, che ospita una affascinante collezione di libri antichi. Non abbiamo visitato la biblioteca, per il poco tempo a disposizione, ma, dalle premesse, credo che ne valga la pena

Parla di storia in ogni stemma che adorna le pareti. Tutto completamente affrescato, scala che da sola basterebbe la visita.

yes, and you get unlimited wifi connection and can listen to music all you want.
in the main city square (piazza maggiore) there's the entrance to SALABORSA, one of the public libraries of bologna.
you can find all the space and services you're looking for there.
and I'm sure you will never forget how good that place looks also. it's beautiful.
you'll be also walking on a glass flor enabling you to see ancient Roman ruins.

there are also other public libraries around town, where you can find the same services. coose which suits you best depending on your schedules and travels around town.
depending upon which services you use, you may need to register. registration is free, but if you're here temporarily they won't give you books or multimedia at home, you can only use them on site.

Confermo, la visita dura il tempo che vuoi tu (anche perchè la parte libera fruibile è limitata). Tieni presente che il teatro anatomico (che merita) e separatamente la biblioteca sono a pagamento.
