Forse la cosa più bella vista nelle Cinque Terre. Una graziosa, dignitosa, statua dedicata alla memoria del più grande degli eroi. Ritrovare l'effige di Garibaldi è sempre una gioia per il cuore.

It’s hard to avoid the name Garibaldi in Italy. Roads are named after him, monuments are erected and plaques honouring him, appear across Italy. Together with Cavour, Mazzini and King Victor Emmanuel II, Garibaldi is celebrated as one of the fathers of modern Italy who transformed Italy and brought about Italian unification.
A charismatic leader, he was able to gather thousands of volunteers to form an army of guerrilla fighters.
The Monterosso monument stands in Garibaldi Square in the centre of the old town. Unlike many other statues, Garibaldi is not on horseback. Instead he stands in a rather jaunty pose, with one hand on his hip and a natty bandanna or kerchief tied around his neck.
The plinth is larger than the statue which makes it a little hard to see the figure of Garibaldi well.
These days, it is a little overshadowed by large leafy green trees so it is not as prominent as it might once have been. The statue stands near a children’s playground so for the most part, it is probably viewed by tired parents who are taking some time out while the kids expend energy on the play equipment.

Das Monumento a Giuseppe Garibaldi ist eine eher unscheinbare und nicht sehr große Statue für den bekannten italienischen Freiheitskämpfer, welche auf der Piazza Municipio aufgestellt wurde.

Garibaldi helped unite souther Italy and is viewed as one of its forefathers. The statue is nice and right next to a children’s park.

Ho scorto la statua di G.Garibaldi nel giardino della parte antica di Monterosso in prossimità del l Municipio, una scritta recita: " a perpetua onoranza Giuseppe Garibaldi dalle lo9ntane americhe al suo paese natio Agostino Desimoni fù G. Batta questo monumento nel 1884 offre lieto e riconoscente", un bel tributo al nostro Eroe dei due mondi.

Monumento a Giuseppe Garibaldi is located in the homonymous square in Monterosso al Mare, one of five towns in Cinque Terre National Park, in the North of Italy. This monument is nice, not more a typical statue of well-known man in Italy. Better the square, where children can play a lot in the children park.

Statua non splendida nei giardini pubblici, simile alle altre che ho visto un po' dappertutto. A parte la bellezza e l'ideologia cui la figura rimanda secondo taluni, preferirei vedere in luoghi particolari, turistici e non, altro, lasciando Garibaldi al suo Passato. La statua non risplende, il luogo ove è collocata è ordinario e comunque, ripeto, preferisco sicuramente altro.
