Lovely location on Lake Como. Menaggio is a great base to explore the lake, with easy access to other locations via boat and bus. Some great places to eat and drink and always seems to be something going on in the main square (Piazza Garibaldi)

Menaggio, Lake Como, Italy is simply wonderful. Not as busy as Varenna or Bellagio, but with all the charm of a small lake side town in Italy that you’d expect. It is well connected by ferries, but they do stop around 8pm. The town has a lovely square with a number of restaurants, cafes, shops. We always managed to get seated in the afternoon, but do recommend making evening reservations. There is a beautiful promenade for an evening stroll, and the most picturesque mini golf course right on the lake front.
we stayed at the Bella Menaggio Terrazzo apartment. The apartment is a short walk from town (10 mins max), and up hill. A bit hard with 3 large suitcases, and you have to cross a road on a tight bend. However the short walk is worth it. The view from the terrace is the best!!!.
The apartment had 3 bedrooms. Two doubles (main with nice en-suite) and a children’s room with 3 bunks. Three bathrooms, and a open plan kitchen, diner, lounge make up the apartment. It is well appointed and we found it very clean. Only wish would be for a Nespresso coffee machine. Apart from that it’s excellent. Highly recommend and would stay again.
Getting from Milan Malapense airport is a trek. Two trains, one ferry and a 10 mins walk. But it’s worth it in the end.

Menaggio is a nice town that is relatively flat, so easy walking, unlike some of the other towns around Lake Como.
There is a long walkway along the Lake which is a beautiful walk. There is also an unusual putt-putt golf course near the end that looks very challenging.
Lots of interesting shops and restaurants.
I would recommend visiting Menaggio. It's easily accessible by ferry.

Attractive and worth visiting, however less idyllic than Bellagio and Varenna. The town square and the lakefront walk are the two better attractions. Had one of our less appetizing meals during our 3 week trip at a walk-in place on the town square.

Domenica 26 marzo io e mio marito siamo stati per la prima volta a Menaggio come ultima tappa del nostro weekend. Una bellissima località di lago, molto frequentata da turisti da ogni parte del mondo, molto chic, ricca di alberghi, ristoranti, locali vari, molto pulita e curata. La passeggiata lungo lago è molto lunga, molto bella e rilassante. È una cittadina che ci è piaciuta molto, una meta interessante per una villeggiatura rilassante.

Uno dei posti più belli del lago di Como. È un piccolo borgo piacevolissimo, ideale per una rilassante passeggiata sul suo lungolago o per sorseggiare un piacevole caffè in uno dei suoi tanti bar. Il centro è piccolino, me è un gioiello. Resta una delle tappe immancabili per chi fosse amante dei paesaggi e delle atmosfere dei grandi laghi italiani.

Bellissima passeggiata lungolago, paese tranquillo e carino.. Meglio di varenna troppo turistico e affollato... Il posto auto va trovato ma questa problematica è comune a tutto il lago

Menaggio è una città mozzafiato che non delude mai! Situata sulle sponde del lago di Como, offre una vista spettacolare sulle montagne e sull'acqua cristallina del lago.la città è il punto di partenza ideale per esplorare le bellezze del lago di Como, grazie ai traghetti che partono regolarmente dal porto. Menaggio è la scelta perfetta per una vacanza rilassante e indimenticabile. Consiglio vivamente di visitare questa bellissima città!

Bellissimo paesino sul Lago di Como, con vista panoramica sull'orizzonte montano e numerosi servizi turistici di vario tipo, dal campeggio all'HOTEL cinque stelle.
Il vissuto di Menaggio traspare dalle strutture di varie epoche, tutte apprezzabili cioè non abbandonate. giardini a Lago e la Piazza centrale sono il cuore di questo centro turistico, da cui si può facilmente partire per ulteriori itinerari, sia a piedi, seguendo le indicazioni numerose, sia con il traghetto, verso le seconde mete turistiche come Varenna e Bellagio, che si affacciano sul Lario proprio nello snodo dei 3 bracci.
Il vissuto di Menaggio traspare dalle strutture di varie epoche, tutte apprezzabili cioè non abbandonate. giardini a Lago e la Piazza centrale sono il cuore di questo centro turistico, da cui si può facilmente partire per ulteriori itinerari, sia a piedi, seguendo le indicazioni numerose, sia con il traghetto, verso le seconde mete turistiche come Varenna e Bellagio, che si affacciano sul Lario proprio nello snodo dei 3 bracci.

We are going to travel to Milan on October and we would like to visit lake Como. What should we visit? Is better traveling with the train or by bus?

We are planning 4/5 days in Lake Como area. We will be arriving in Milan and then leaving Como and go to Venice. We will not have a car. Would Menaggio be a good spot ?
If you go to Menaggio and take the ferry in 10 minutes you will get to Varenna. It's much better than Menaggio. I spent 3 days in Menaggio and after a short visit in Varenna I was really impressed.

We (2 o.a.p's!) will be staying for 7 days at Cadenabbia from 22nd to 29th Sept. and would like to do a day trip by bus from Cadenabbia (or Menaggio, if the bus does not stop at Cadenabbia) to Lugano, as it sounds very scenic and enjoyable. Do you know if that is possible, where would we book tickets, and how often do the buses run?
THis will be our first visit to Como and Switzerland , although we have been to Italy several times, so any help and advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Hmmm. I personally wouldn't recommend cycling but plenty of people do. Roads are just a bit crazy and busy at times. Plenty of boats and the ferry to take you over to the other places around Lake Como

To be honest, I have no experience in renting a boat there. I didn't even have the idea to rent one as the Como Lake offers a lot of public traffic by ships and ferries.
All the lakes I know are limited for individual traffic offering only electroboats or similar vehicles.

Hi,
We're going to Menaggio the first week in May. It will be our second visit here as we absolutely think Menaggio is the best part of Lake Como. On our first visit we did a day trip to Lugano on the bus. What a wonderful experience. On this upcoming trip we'd like to go to St. Moritz for the day. From previous posts it sounds like a very long day and that you just get to St. Moritz and have to turn around and head back to Menaggio. Is it worth it? Am I wrong in assuming that? I'd appreciate any input/

You have picked a different airport to what is normally picked but when you come out of the airport get on the via strade 340/ss340 until you get to como sud and once there follow the road with bennets on the left and then at the roundabout third exit and follow the road up the slope ( will make sense when your there ) and then follow the road though the tunnels and along the road for about 30ish minutes, if your not very confident about driving in narrow streets or the wrong side of the road this isnt for you!
