A noi questo edificio, locato a poca distanza dalla caratteristica piazzetta di sant' Orso non è piaciuto. Si tratta di un' antica chiesa paleocristiana dedicata a San Lorenzo risalente al V secolo. La sua funzione era prevalentemente funeraria come attesta il ritrovamento di diverse tombe tra cui quelle dei primi vescovi della diocesi valdostana . All' interno si trovano alcuni reperti ed un video che però, al nostro ingresso, parlava solo in lingua inglese . Peccato!!!! Abbiamo segnalato il disservizio ai custodi che ci sono parsi alquanto indifferenti. Noi non abbiamo provato alcuna emozione forse anche perché non abbiamo potuto apprezzare fino in fondo, per quanto sopra indicato, la sua importanza storica.

Ce la avevo compresa in un biglietto cumulativo di 8€ e l'ho visitata, ma devo dire che non ne sarebbe valsa la pena altrimenti.
Si, si vede la struttura di una antica chiesa nella quale furono seppelliti personaggi illustri dell'epoca. Ma appunto se ne vede, anzi intuisce, solo la struttura, più la pianta ad essere onesti.
Non ne vale molto la pena.
Nota: si accede tramite scale, non mi pare aver visto un percorso per persone con difficoltà motorie.

Non ne vale molto la pena.

We visited this site as it was one of the five included on the Valle D'Aosta Culture Pass. The pass cost EUR10 per person and was valid for a single visit to each of the five sites with an expiry date of six months.
We had a little bit of difficulty locating the entrance to the site which is on Via Sant' Orso. as we thought the entrance must be through the Chiesa San Lorenzo. Not so. We eventually saw a sign on the top of a doorway in the stone wall beside, and at the back of, the church that read "Chiesa paleocristiana di San Lorenzo" with the French written underneath. We followed the path from the doorway which led round the back to a small, very modern reception and display area where they checked our tickets and we walked down the metal steps into the archaeological site.
The building that once stood here has been dated back to the fifth century and it was primarily used for funerary purposes. There were a good number of tombs on display including some belonging to the earliest Bishops of Aosta.
There was explanatory signage in Italian, French and English.
Interesting though not a must see.

Basilica Paleocristiana , dove è stato fatto uno straordinario lavoro di recupero.Durarte il percorso si possono vedere diverse tombe, tra cui quelle di alcuni vescovi.

Nel sottosuolo della parrocchia seicentesca, affacciata sulla caratteristica piazza sant'Orso, è visitabile una antica chiesa dedicata a San Lorenzo. Questo edificio datato alla prima metà del V secolo è a pianta cruciforme. Sono state ritrovate numerose sepolture, tra le quali spiccano quelle dei primi vescovi della diocesi aostana. Nel IX secolo, in seguito ad un incendio e una successiva inondazione, fu sostituita da un edificio di piccole dimensioni, ricostruito e ampliato in più fasi successive. La visita dura pochi minuti ed è a pagamento. Consiglio di acquistare la tessera che consente anche l'ingresso ad altri siti archeologici di Aosta. All'interno sono disponibili dei pannelli informativi. Andrebbe valorizzata meglio

Eccezionale il recupero dei resti della Basilica Paleocristiana: ammirando da vicino gli scavi si capisce la cura dei dettagli e la maestria nell'edificazione del luogo di culto di cui oggi possiamo ammirare una parte dopo tanti millenni.
L'ingresso è a pagamento ed è uno di quelli inclusi nel biglietto unico assieme ad altre meraviglie della città.

La visita è organizzata bene. C'è un percorso da seguire e si possono vedere i resti di questa chiesa paleocristiana. Interessanti gli scavi che hanno portato alla luce le tombe di alcuni vescovi

The visit to the early Christian church is included in the ticket price for the Roman Theatre, so I definitely recommend that you make the most of it and visit it.
It is quite interesting to see how churches were built in that time and in particular the burial traditions. The visit is really quick and you must get the ticket at the Theater, here they will just stamp it, so keep that in mind in your planning.

Ciao, io e la mia famiglia abbiamo visitato questo luogo in ottobre e siamo rimasti delusi perchè si tratta di resti di scavi ma non molto.
