My family loved this! It was refreshing to have a more active role in Venice's boating culture. Would definitely do this again and highly recommend it.

As beautiful as Venice is to an observer, it cannot compare to the magical experience of actually rowing the Grand Canal at sunset. We were initially nervous about rowing among zippy water buses and professional gondoliers, but our instructor Nausicaa taught us well and gave us confidence. With a spectacular sunset as a backdrop, we rowed under the Rialto Bridge (twice, back and forth), passed glittering palazzos, and finally glided through quiet back street canals. Many thanks to Row Venice for preserving this Venetian tradition and especially to Nausicaa for her patience, and for sharing her experience as a native Venetian.

Amazing experience rowing through the canals of Venice. Would definitely reccomend to anyone visiting the city. Eliza was very patient and kind and shared her knowledge with us about the beautiful city of Venice.

Felt very comfortable with our instructor Marian within the first 2 minutes. She is so sweet and very passionate, I felt like I wanted to live in Venice for a few months. Don’t underestimate this fragile looking woman… She is what “woman power” is all about. She is a pro in rowing and getting in and out the boat. We were very very lucky to have her. we were also very impressed. We went during Carnavale and this rowing with Ms. Marian is truly our highlight. Thanks so much!

It was such an amazing experience to be on the quieter side of Venice rowing the boat ourselves and hearing about the area from our instructor! I booked two boats for our family of 5 and we all enjoyed our instructors (Jane and Gabriella) very much. They were patient, encouraging, knowledgeable and friendly! I highly recommend everyone to experience standing on a Venetian boat, rowing from both the front and the back! My youngest, who is 9 years old, was able to keep up with both his older (teenaged) brothers!

We had a one in a lifetime experience rowing on the grand canal last Sunday morning. It was a perfect activity for families with older children / teenagers. We felt like we were part of the venetian community . I can't recommend this enough.

This was a really well done learning experience for our three kids (13, 12, 12). After time learning about history in museums, we appreciated the change of pace that the rowing class allowed. Everyone was able to try it out. We learned some things, got some exercise, and enjoyed seeing Venice from the water. Would highly recommend - especially for families with teens and middle-school aged children.

Had a great time learning the basics of rowing. I wasn't very good at it but the instructor, Jane was super friendly and patient. A really relaxing and memorable experience. Would highly recommend to anyone!

This was great fun, I highly recommend it.
It is a bit of living history, rowing silently through quiet Venetian canals, in the typical boat local families would have used for their daily journeys years ago.
Instructors are a hugely interesting bunch with fascinating backgrounds, and fill you in on a lot about life in Venice today, and in the past.
They are very competent, all expert boat handlers, who will guide you with patience until you get the hang of it, and then you can glide along the waterways, seeing Venice from a new angle. It is safe, even for children. These boats are sturdy and stable.
Much more fun and better value than a boring and contrived gondola ride.

Absolutely one of the highlights of our trip. More fun than a gondola ride and so much more culturally enlightening. It's also a non-profit so there is a bit of a cause behind it. The instructors are funny and curious and happy to talk about their passion of rowing and their city. Our instructor was Rossa. It also forces you to visit a neighborhood Venice you may not otherwise see, more residential and even a little industrial.

We are family of 5 people. 2 adults, 1 senior (my mom 68 yrs) and 2 kids (10 and 14 yrs).
Coming to Venice mid June 2020.
I was thinking of booking batela.
What times of day should we look for good experience( without much congestion, nice views, not too hot)?
Does the guide also talk about history/give as info about landmarks as we pass across it?
PS - We are vegetarians (cichetto row may not be an option?)

Hi, We have a batela for 5 people available for your rowing lesson. We operate in a quiet part of the city, so you never have to worry about crowds.
Our expert Venetian rowing instructors will highlight some interesting aspects of the area, but this is a rowing lesson and we concentrate on Venetian rowing, traditional boats, Venice and the lagoon, etc.
We can adapt the Cichetto Row to a vegetarian diet.

Do you row all the time or is there an opportunity to sit and enjoy the view while the instructor rows?

We didn't have any planned stops such as those mentioned as cichetti stops, but since there were three of us we each had some time to sit back and enjoy the views. Also, our teacher, Gabriella, rowed through some of the narrower and busier canals and pointed out homes and areas of interest as she rowed by them. In all it was a wonderful experience and, it seemed to me, flexible as far as to how much you wanted to row.
How do we book? Did not see a link to do that.
