Une sensation étrange, c'est impressionnant quand on connait l'histoire. Les visites des synagogues sont uniquement en groupes, c'est dommage, nous ne l'avons pas fait. Nous avons préféré déguster ce qui seront nos meilleurs gâteaux au chocolats, pâtisseries juives traditionnelles

Abbiamo potuto visitare il ghetto grazie ad un’ottima guida che ci ha spiegato la storia di questa zona di Venezia, con specifiche storiche molto interessanti, che fanno comprendere ancora meglio lo spirito del popolo veneziano nel corso dei secoli.
Abbiamo potuto visitare anche due sinagoghe Scola Levantina e Scola Spagnola.

Our guide was very knowledgeable about the extensive history of the area. Was able to see 2 of the synagogues and walked through the Jewish ghetto neighborhood. Learned a lot! We highly recommend the museum's tour.

I wish I could have taken the synagogue tour, but the staff misguided me. I showed up at 3:45pm to join a synagogue tour. The men at the door told me to come back at 4:30pm for the next tour. When I returned at 4:25pm they told me they were sold out for the day. Buy your tickets in advance and don’t let the staff far the door turn you away.

Big Recommendation.
The tour of the ghetto and the synagogue was great. We were shown the neighborhood and taught a lot about the local Jewish community along different periods of history.
Then we visited one of the synagogues and it was gorgeous, truly a work of art and a piece of history.
The tour guide was very very informative and kind. We were able to ask lots of questions and have interesting conversations.

Great informative and educational tour that explains history of Jews in Venice and history of ghettos in general. I had visited the Jewish quarter once, but during the tour the guide pointed to plates and buildings I had not explored so well previously. And, of course, interior of the Levantine Synagogue was beautiful. The tour lasts one hour, and you will be more competent after these stories for sure.

The museum is closed for renovations at the moment, and we took the tour of the ghetto and the Levantine synagogue. The tour guide was excellent, giving just the right amount of detail, and answering everyone's questions. The history is very moving, and I would call this a must for any visitor to Venice. We'll be back.

Hi there. Does someone know how long lasts the guided tour to the synagogues ? Can't find the information and would like to know how much time we should schedule for the museum and the synagogues.
Also, does this museum worth the visit or would you recommend just strolling around the ghetto without entering it ? Do we learn a lot in the museum?

The museum costs money. The tour of the synogogue is included in the admission price and is the only way to see the synogogue other than attending services. I don't know the answers to your other questions

Anyone have any clear high res images of the entrance or historical pictures of it? My friend is trying to figure out what the original shield says; but it's faded and we were frustratingly not able to find much information about it.

I understand the museum and some synagogues will be undergoing renovation. Will they be closed? If so, when will renovations be completed?

Hi, I don't know about the renovation schedule. We were able to see two of the four synagogues- one of the Sephardic synagogues and the Italian synagogue.

My husband and I will be in Venice and will have free time on the afternoon and evening of Sunday May 24 and the afternoon of Monday, May 25. I know it is Shavuot. Will any tours be available? We would like to visit the Jewish area and synagogue. Will everything be closed? or is it worth going? What will be open?
Is there a place for dinner or drinks/snacks? If we had time, we would attend services in the morning.

I would assume that everything is closed on Jewish holidays. At the tour the was mentioning about the fact that services are held in a different synagogue every holiday, so it might be an idea to check into that. Try contacting the Jewish community of Venice. The meals are served in the Gam-Gam resturant. I think you have to order in advance - try contacting Chabad of Venice regarding this.
