Of all the tours we took in Italy, this was by far the most expensive company with the worst value. We booked them for two days and would have canceled after the first had it not been for 3 wine tours (and our anniversary) on the second day. Pagus Tours was more about checking off the boxes and processing you rather than creating an experience. They said A/C van, check - if you are the driver as there were no vents in the back. The van has been around for a while, it was a rough ride with a window whistling as it didn’t seal properly. They said you would have a host/sommelier - that was a stretch. Our host was nice enough (when she wasn’t completely silent for much of the time) but not really a host - more of a driver which in some cases we felt unsafe as she tailgated terribly on the highway. She made no commentary as we drove past places so we had no idea what we were looking at, and she was NOT a sommelier (we asked). We were there to learn more about Italian wines and was disappointed that we knew more than the “teacher”. Two of the wineries were great experiences but the third, was a father/son operation. Again, they didn’t speak one word of English and we missed half of what he was saying.

For our first tour, we requested them to set up seeing a Parmesan cheese factory, balsamic vinegar production and Parma ham factory – what a mistake. The Parmesan cheese factory was actually amazing – highly recommend if you can arrange it yourself or with a different company. For the balsamic vinegar, we were taken to a dilapidated farmyard where an older man did it as a hobby. He did seem super sweet and happy to have us, but it was a little strange to say the least. The worst part was he spoke NO English and we were at the mercy of our host’s translation, and we know we missed a LOT of what he was saying as he went on for a long time and then she had to try to summarize - you could tell she struggled. Because it was Saturday, the Parma ham factory was closed so we were taken to a Charcuterie MUSEUM (YES, museum). This was the last stop around 1:30. After doing the small tour from a guide, we were provided with samples of the meat. We were the only ones there and it was the most awkward situation ever. We were served a small glass of sparkling wine, the meat platter and some bread sticks. Our host sat at our table watching us eat, while the two people who worked there stood a few feet behind starting at us like we were in the zoo. It was awfully awkward and extremely uncomfortable. The spread was a lot and we were pretty full. The tour said lunch was included so we figured that was it. As we drove away, our host says, “let’s go for lunch now”. Like what??? Now it is like 3:00. What a disaster, we had no clue what was going on and no communication from the host as to the schedule.

As mentioned, these two days were SUPER expensive (we had three weeks of Italy tours to compare it to). The parmesan factory and the balsamic place were both free, so I do not know where the expense came from. At the end of the day, please save your money and book with someone else; I cannot convey what a less than desirable experience overall these two days were.

Had A very Nice trip to Valpolicella smal town and a visit in the lokal church.
The visit at the Franchini Vinery was fantastic. The guide Sonja explained and guided Us around in the cellars was all the time open to answer our questions. excellent! Tasting and snaks was better than excpected, ended with shopping wine to bring Home.
And our driver and guide Elisabetta from Pages Vine tours was fantastic.

Recomend the tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tour with Anna our tour guide. We went first to a hilltop village in Valpolicella which had stunning views of the countryside - we could see all the way to Lake Garda. The village parish church dated from c. 10th century ad and the cloisters were interesting. We could not go in the church as a wedding was in progress - we watched the guests and bride enter the church - an added bonus.
Anna explained the process of wine making in Valpolicella which was very useful . Then we went to a local independent vineyard where the owner Cynthia explained the process of cultivating the vines and making the wine and showed us the different grape varieties. This was extremely enlightening as each stage in the process was illustrated . We saw the grapes and got to smell the first press of the wine .
Then we had our wine tasting with snacks and water. Cynthia explained all the differences between the different types of wine produced on site . This was really great for the appreciation of the qualities of each wine.
It was all in all a marvellous experience - the expert guide Anna , the stunning views of the wine growing area and the warm welcome and expertise of Cynthia at her vineyard made this a memorable time . Highly recommended for wine enthusiasts.

Half day Soave tour - excellent!!
We were a party of 6 and had a minibus driven by our excellent guide Anna. Lovely tour of Soave castle and then a visit to the Tessari family vineyard where 4th generation family member Nick gave us an excellent tour and fabulous tasting of all their wines with lovely accompanying salami and cheeses.
A wonderful trip. Highly recommend.

Excellent tour to organic vineyards. Great tour for people who know a bit about wine production and are interested in the technical side. Also lots of sampling!! Our tour guide ,Elizabeth, was really good. Tour was meant to end at 630 pm. It ended at 730 pm which reflects the fun we were all having.

Lovely guide-very skimpy servings and hugely overpriced. Randomly a couple brought their kids along to our tour. Although they were pretty well behaved it wasn’t great for those wanting to enjoy a relaxed grown up experience. The tour guide really should have stopped this.

The guide was a lovely man, very knowledgable and the church we visited was nice. The visit to the winery was poor. It very much felt like it was an inconvenience having us there and the portions were appalling! 1 piece of salami and a crumble of cheese per person, accompanied by 5 tastings of wine, each so tiny that it wasnt really even possible to get a good idea of the flavours. The final tasting, the host basically ran out of wine and I got literally a thimble from the bottle. I assumed she would open another buy nope-that was it!! All in all each person received less than a glass of wine for the tasting in total and barely any snacks.
They also produced their own olive oil on site-when one of the party asked to try some-they were totally ignored-flat out NO!
I’ve been on other wine tours before and they have been relaxed hospitable experiences-this one was purely transactional. Sadly I would not recommend it.

Hi Errin and thanks for your review, mostly for the "lovely man" (I was your guide in the tour). I respond to your statements. The tour is a group tour, not a private one, so it may happen that you have other people as travel companions (maximum eight participants) and even families with children. The tour family has two children aged eight and fourteen who have behaved very well (I am a middle school teacher and I know what it means to behave well), indeed, at one point they started playing chess on their mother's smartphone and they never moved. The tasting took place in the beautiful garden of the cellar, in the shade of a large tree, however July 17th was one of the hottest days of the summer here in Italy, for this reason the owner of the cellar, for each of the five types , poured the wine into the glasses, showed the bottle and immediately took it back to the cellar, remembering however: "If you want more, just ask". The cheeses, salami, mostarda and dried fruit are only accompaniments to the tasting, furthermore the owner, at the end of the tasting, since there was still a slice of salami left, asked me to finish it, so as not to have to throw it away. As for the olive oil, the winery produces a small quantity for its own consumption, but does not offer it for tasting or sell it. The owner's no instead concerned the grappa, produced in minimal quantities and unfortunately already sold out. We are sorry to receive these reviews when we do everything possible to make our guests feel good (the family with the children however confirmed to me that it was a great experience and they enjoed it), especially with regard to this small family-run winery, with an owner with very sweet ways, in which everything can be said except that they are not hospitable.

My husband and I love Amarone wines and so we booked a tour of two Amarone vineyards. The tour guide and driver, Davide, was from the area and a local teacher, and was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We rode in a 6 passenger van, comfortable and well air conditioned. There were only four of us on the tour. The two vineyards that we visited were different in size but both gave us a nice tour and nice tastings. We ended up going longer than planned, but Davide was not in a hurry to "get us through this". We wished we had had another day in Verona to go to some other vineyard.

We did the Amarone and Soave trip, red and white wines at two wineries. One small, where the siblings who owned it were busy in the office and packing the wines themselves. Got to taste 5 or 6 wines and a vermouth and then we moved on to a much bigger winery where we tasted a few reds. The hosts and Elizabetta from Pagus made it fun, though the hosts at the larger winery weren’t as generous with their tastings. We were lucky because there were only us and another couple who were good fun which made for a fun afternoon. Would recommend!

We chose this tour based on other recommendations and it did not disappoint. We booked at the store in Castelvecchio, also where we were collected and dropped off. Staff were all fantastic. Well worth it.
