We had a wonderful time cooking with Letizia at her home. The meal was so good and it wasn't hard to prepare. I got a kick out of seeing how Letizia had my husband making pannacotta. He even jumped in to help make pasta...what?! Such a wonderful experience, one we will never forget!

Letizia is a great teacher and really knows the technical parts of cooking. My wife and I loved the class. Fascinating discussion about modern flour processing and finding highest quality ingredients. Real hands-on in an intimate setting. Her location is pretty spectacular once you find it. Don't rely on Google GPS or you will be knocking on the wrong door! Allow 15 minutes from the base of Assisi to get to her house.

When my wife & I were planning a trip to Italy, experiencing the regional food was high on our list of priorities for the time. What that primarily meant was going to restaurants in the places we were staying in Umbria. We also thought it might be fun to do a cooking class as well. At the same time, we're ok cooks and have limitless access to recipes and Italian how-tos online so we were uncertain how "informative" or "useful" it would be to take a class like this. We decided to try it anyways and made reservations.
Even on the day, as we were driving over to the class, neither of us was very excited at the prospect of doing it concerned that it wouldn't be fun or instructive. The drive there began to change our minds a bit. It's in the beautiful hills with a good view of Assisi and the Umbrian valley beyond. Once we got there and started talking to Letizia about what we were going to do, we were all in.
We helped Letizia prepare a 4 course meal with ample information on what was being made, how to prepare it well, what things to look for and consider as the food is being prepared, etc. In the few hours we were there, we learned new things and practiced new skills. We'll definitely be taking these back to Texas and putting them into practice.
So, in summary, if you enjoy Italian food and want to improve your skills in making it, if you'd appreciate eating the lovely meal perched high in the Umbrian hills with a lovely view of Assisi, don't hesitate making a reservation with Letizia. You will not be disappointed.

This is something not to miss if you're in the area. Letizia is a brilliant and spirited woman and a gifted teacher. We learned a great deal about the Italian approach to food (basically--why just about everything tastes better there than in America). The cooking class itself covered a lot of ground but gave us some things that we can really do right away when we get back as well as some things that are more aspirational (making pasta: with Letizia's instruction I am pretty sure we can do this if we get some equipment and apply ourselves, but I'm not sure we'll get around to it). The meal you'll make with her will be terrific! She has spent quite a bit of time in America and knows how to adapt Italian recipes to American conditions. Her home is sited spectacularly and the views of Assisi and the areas in between are gorgeous.We got to walk around the area a bit after our meal, and it's unbeatable. Not least, we chatted with her about Perugia, her home town, which was the next stop for us--she gave us some fantastic recommendations for artisans that were among the highlights of our visit to Umbria.

Cooking with Letizia is like cooking with an Italian mama. Simple ingredients, simply prepared food, with all techniques broken down. The views from Alla Madonna El Piatto are fantastic. Assisi and surrounding area are in view. Our menu was lovely and easy to reproduce at home. We made some nice friends during the day. Lovely day in the kitchen! Well worth the time and the experience. I am a professionally trained chef and my friend is a fantastic cook, but the rest of the class were novice cooks. I think everyone throughly enjoyed themselves. Bravo!

Letizia's cooking classes are hands on, with basic recipes that you can take home and adapt to your own kitchen. It's great fun for any age and Letizia's enthusiasm in sharing her extensive knowledge and experience (in perfect English) draws in anyone who participates. Kids can try their hands at making a ravioli and every one in the class goes away with a better knowledge of how to find the best ingredients. (As well as a fantastic meal the group prepares.) We made incredibly light gnocchi, a simple frittata, saltimbocca, and panna cotta. Don't miss the chance to buy her cookbook - a brilliant, practical souvenir of authentic Italian cooking.

We had a terrific time in Letizia's cooking class in June 2017. From the initial warm welcome to the expert advice, Letizia was an excellent teacher. It was wonderful to learn about Italian culture and food traditions while creating a delicious meal. We have since bought Letizia's cookbook and are now experimenting with the fun recipes and enjoying the stories/photos. If you're near Assisi, this cooking class is definitely a terrific way to spend the day!

Whether you are a passionate cook or you just love to eat, you will want to add a class with Letizia to your Assisi itinerary! Michael and I spent a week last month (June 2017) walking in Umbria and took time for a superb cooking class at Alla Madonna del Piatto, Letizia Mattiacci's wonderful agriturismo in the the hills above Umbria.
We are vegetarian and Letizia was totally accommodating. For lunch we prepared bruschetta, tomatoes, an eggplant and ricotta dip, ceci with mozzarella, scrambled eggs with greens, ravioli with a lemon sauce, – all made with herbs from her lovely garden or growing wild outside her house, and her delicious olive oil! For desert we made a panna cotta with fresh peaches, and Letizia added some cheese with her own elderflower jelly.
We learned a lot about ingredients and simple, practical ways to do things in a home kitchen as well as about the culture of Umbria from Letizia and her lovely daughter, Tea, who popped in during the lesson to help with cleanup. Letizia was warm and friendly, a top notch instructor, the setting was beautiful and her guest rooms looked charming. Since coming home we’ve made pasta and several other dishes from Letizia’s excellent cookbook and her interesting blog.
Letizia speaks perfect English (having worked and lived in the U.S) and her class is a true hands on experience. Like Michael and me, you might find a day spent with Letizia in her kitchen the highlight of your trip.

Not often I go back and write a review from something a year ago--but since I keep cooking the food from Letizia's class and from her cookbook I thought I should go back and make the recommendation. Her time in America and understanding of American kitchens means the recipes and instructions are quite usable when you return home. For example, before the class I thought pasta was hard and complicated and not worth it. Now, I make my own all the time and it's really not that hard or particularly time consuming. Not only did we learn a lot, but we had a lovely day. Dining while looking over the valley of Assisi will always be a fond memory and Letizia will continue to be a good friend.

I was part of a group of 8 ladies from South Africa who traveled to Assisi and stayed with Letizia and husband at their bed and breakfast, Alla Madonna del Piatto. What a wonderful experience which including an amazing cooking class with Letizia. She was so knowledgeable about the region and specifically the food and herbs. All the ingredients we cooked with was locally grown, sourced and organic. We made pasta, chicken alla cacciatora and panna cotta for dessert. What a feast! Thank you for a wonderful time in Umbria - unforgettable experience!

120 €. You cooked for at least 3 hours and then eat your meal. My husband and I cooked with a group of students. It was really great. Letizia is a wonderful teacher. You will have to contact Letizia for availability.
