Mooi plein in de steigers

De Marktplatz is een groot ruim plein omgeven met voornamelijk winkels en uiteraard het stadhuis en het raadhuis.
Toen wij er waren werd er zwaar gewerkt en dan nog valt het op hoe minutieus de Zwitsers toezien op het goede verloop van zulke werken.
Uiteraard wordt deze Marktplatz gedomineerd door het prachtige stadhuis van Bazel.

A large square, dominated by the impressive building of the old town hall. On its sides are old, massive, quite beautiful buildings. In front of the old city hall there is a small mobile food market.

Exciting Plaza

Much activity happens in this exciting Plaza. Early morning markets are a feature with multitudes of goods to be snapped up.

Across the street are some fine eateries and retail outlets. We enjoyed a grand dinner at Movenpick Brasserie Baselstab.

Magnificent in design and ornate decoration is the hallmark of the landmark Town Hall. It has exquisite frescos and an enchanting façade.

Whilst we stayed near the Basel SBB for convenience for our departure to France, we travel to the Markplatz by tram which did not take long. It was easy to use puplic transportation and our hotel provided a free transport card.

At Markplatz the day we visited there was a small market selling produce and fresh food.

Its also located in the centre of the old town with lots of historical buildings.

Its also the location of the city hall (Rathaus)

BEAUTIFUL CITY HALL

My family and I toured the Basel City Hall and learned about it's history during a tour of OLD TOWN. Make sure to go into the COURTYARD....some wonderful statues.

Une place où l'hôtel de ville se démarque

Très jolie place qui vaut essentiellement par la présence imposante de l’hôtel de ville (Rathaus Basel) qui date du XVIème siècle et qui surprend par sa façade rouge. Pour le reste, pas grand chose à dire, c’est une place assez quelconque d'où ma note moyenne

The Marktplatz is the central square in Old Town Basel. I walked through the neighborhood on a quiet Sunday morning on the last day of a Viking River Cruise this past April. The Rathaus (City Hall) is the main building in the square. It is an impressive red sandstone edifice that dominates the square.
