A fascinating expose on Albert Einstein, and WWll era. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Bern, Switzerland.

Gick hit för att se utställningen om Einstein, alltid fascinerats av denne man med det yviga håret. Redan vid entrén sitter han på en bänk och liksom välkomnar besökare. Hela plan 2 är dedikerat till denna forskares liv. Tydligt markerat på golvet vilken tidsepok man är i, texter på flera språk i varje utställningsmiljö. Fastnade en lång stund i hans studiekammare där man fick ta del av brevkonversation han hade med sin studentkärlek Mileva som senare blev hans första fru, ny sida av Einstein uppenbarade sig. Utställningen ger överhuvudtaget en bredare bild av Einstein än bara hans forskarmeriter. Skildrar också politiska läget under hans livsperiod som omfattade boende i många länder men Bern som stad, är uppenbarligen mycket stolta över åren han tillbringade här. Jag lärde mig mycket om Einstein som jag inte visste förut och tyckte det var en mycket trevlig utställning. Övriga våningar fascinerades jag inte så mycket av men välgjorda utställningar även de, lite svårt att hitta dock, lätt gå vilse.

Really showcases the rich history of Bern and the canton as a whole. Loved the basement sections specifically about the medieval period and how Bern came to join the Confederation (and expanded militarily). The Mayoral throne was really cool too, as was the iconoclasm statue fragments. The sections on that one royal family and the Celts were interesting too!
The modern history section at the top was less interesting imo, but it's worth it to just quickly scan all the inventions and stuff they have lined up. The Einstein portion is mostly dedicated to his biography, and as someone not too interested in Einstein, I skipped it mostly. (Did have some history of Jews in Switzerland though)
The plunder and temporary sections were also meh, but checking them out briefly was cool. Overall it does the job of a Bern history museum excellently, and the other things it was alright at.

This is superb museum concentrating on the evolution of the city and canton of Bern over the ages. It starts with the stone age, Celts and Romans (ground floor) goes on (first floor) to the riches acquired at the battle of Grandson, the looting of Lausanne cathedral and so on. This latter part of the exhibition shows how little is left: anything gold was melted down but the needlework is stupendous. Napoleon got revenge by financing the Egyptian campaign with Bern's gold. Then "From the early middle ages to the Ancien Régime" (basement), the glory and decline of the Ancien Régime (mezzanine) and finally 20th century Bern (3rd floor). Absolutely fascinating for anyone interested in Bernese, Swiss and European history. Yes, there's the Einstein museum, the Egyptian bit and Asian cultures as well.
We went twice so we could soak the place in. Only drawback is the rather feeble sheet of paper showing what's on each floor; a much more complete description would have helped.

Thought it was a good thing to do while in Bern, I must admit I thought it would be more about his brilliance and what he achieved etc.
But I got the vibe it was mainly about WW2 and his university days. It did touch on some of his intellect side by only on a small scale.
I would recommend going and seeing for yourself, it free with the Swiss pass.

A favoured resident in the city, Albert Einstein, is seated on a bench in front of this delightful building that was built in 1894.
What was originally meant to be a 2005 temporary exhibition, celebrating Albert's miracle year of 1905, in Bern, has become permanent. Black and white photographs are atmospheric. They show him with scientific colleagues, in the Patent Office where he worked and with his family.
Whilst one of the greatest minds and thinkers ever contemplated celestial harmonies, apparently his personal life wasn’t the most harmonious during these years.
An Ethnographical section has exhibits from around the world, including a fine House Altar from Japan.
Many other displays are engaging, covering local history over a couple of millennia. Another highlight is the treasure of exquisite items of gold and silver.
The building is also an artistic work. In a castellated style inspired by centuries old castles in the country, it has an impressive colourful mosaic called Age of History above the entrance.

We went 'only' to the restaurant in the garden - very nice place. Peaceful and quite, despite being in the middle of the town.

The entry fee including the Einstein museum was 18 francs and it was definitely worth it. The museum has some fascinating exhibitions include modern Swiss history and the life of Einstein. I spent 4 hours here. The staff were very friendly too and everything is written in German, French and English. I can definitely recommend this place as one of the best things to see in Bern.

Really enjoyed this outstanding museum spread over several floors of a large building. The exhibits are great. Lots of bi-lingual translations. The Einstein part is also excellent with lots of his personal stuff.

Hello, We were there around 6 hours but we like museums. There is plenty to read in the Einstein Museum, Plenty to see in the Bernische.
