Guide was fabulous. She took us everywhere she could get into and answered all of our numerous questions. It was expensive but we’ll worth every penny.

It was worth going for sure, if you are interested in knowing this important body (UN) a close and well known, you definitely should go for this tour and see what we always read in books and watch on TV in real life.

Just on the "exterior grounds" of the site (likely an advanced reservation necessary to enter the premises), it was just a brief visit for the view of the so-named Broken Chair sculpture (a "big & high" wooden chair with its one leg cut short) followed by that of the two fairly-long rows of "national flags" to just kind of look through the front gate of the compound (not sure if the flags of all the UN member nations of about 200 are all there but the two rows are about equal in length); and also for a brief glance along with the sculpture & the flags are the small fountains (on the square where the sculpture is), the big name sign of "Nations Unies" followed on the 2nd line by "United Nations" (on one side of the front gate) and the two "long murals" depicting some colorful human figures & such (one on each side of the front gate).
Arriving here from the west side of Lake Geneva and leaving afterward heading to the Cornavin Station, it was just about a 10-minute bus ride each way.

I went with teenagers 14 years old. We stayed 15 minutes in front of a organisation chart. The guide explained us the fonctions of each entity from the secretary to the NGO missions …I suggest you to be more specific with a dynamic présentation ( Video). Students need more concrete cases to understand the ONU mission. For exemple, what did it happen when russia invaded urkaine. what missions has undertaken the ONU to restore peace and prevent war crimes.
You should modernize the presentation and the role of the ONU that it is more meaningful for the students. Thank you

I booked a private VIP tour for up to five people (CHF 280) because I couldn't get tickets for the free public tour. (Tours are restricted until June 2023 when renovation work on the UN buildings is due to be completed). Even the VIP Tours are limited so book early.
You need to be at the entrance 45 minutes before the tour to get your printed badge (you have to send the UN your ID details in advance), clear security and have a guide walk you through he UN grounds about ten minutes to the main entrance where your tour begins. It's an interesting walk with a great photo opportunity after you clear security of the UN building and all the country flags. You can also use the toilet before your tour. There is also a gift shop for souvenirs at the end of your tour.
Note: because of renovation work, the entrance is NOT at the main entrance where taxis want to take you to. Instead it's at the Peace Gate near the huge broken chair statue at the Nations Bus Stop.
We visited on a Friday and learned that this was usually an easier day to get tickets for a tour because there are fewer conferences and most visitors want to listen in on a conference. The best months to hear conferences are apparently May, June and September.
Maria, our Mexican English speaking tour guide, was superb. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, including about international law. We saw the UN grounds (including the beautiful peacocks that must always be kept on UN grounds due to a stipulation in the grant of the man who donated the grounds to the UN), small museum and the conference center. Our tour went on for about 80 minutes. Thanks Maria for being so generous with your time. Maria, like the other tour guides we met, was studying to become a translator.
Despite it being a Friday, we were lucky to listen in o a disarmament conference. It was interesting to see the seating protocol and hear about how the translators work. They are the among most highly paid UN employees and must be passively fluent in two languages. They work tandem with a colleague in shifts of 30 minutes (one translator works as the other listens so understands what the gist of the conference is and then takes over after 30 minu. their work demands such high concentration. They have to deal with accents and poor sound quality because of delegates who participate from cars or other poor network areas. Each delegate can only speak for two minutes so they speak super fast. So the translators speak at breakneck speed!
This was a highly interesting tour. If you want to have an upmarket lunch, try the Vieux Bois restaurant just steps from the main entrance to the UN where the tour ends. It's the restaurant of the Geneva Hotel School.
Across the main entrance of the UN, is the International Red Cross Museum, though sadly this is less interesting than it could be.

As my young Son learned about United Nations, so we wanted to take him to a tour to real UN complex. We booked VIP tour. We were lucky that on that day some of Salle /meeting rooms were not occupied, we even had a chance to have direct view on the meeting from the upper floor. It was interesting to see and also be able to hear what’s exactly being discussed on the forum using the earphone which accommodate 6 working languages in the UN. Our guide, Ms Alice was acknowledgeable and kept us well informed. She was also very nice. Also the other 2 ladies who picked us up in front of the gate at the entrance. They were also nice and friendly. The historical building in the UN is currently under renovation, so some places we cannot access. But it doesnot reduce the meaning of the tour.
For us, this tour enhanced our knowledge about UN and for our young Son on how he view the world.

Very good and informative, for me it was in the top few things that I visited while in Geneva.
Guided tour is the way to go for understanding the work of the United Nations.
Good photos at the front with all the flags of UN members.
Easy to get to my foot or tram.

Our visit to the UN Palace des Nations in Geneva, combined with a guided tour of one hour, was one in a series: For several years now we have brought our students of 17-19 years of age to visit international Geneva, inclucding the UN.
Getting to know the UN, its work and the structure, organisation and history of international Geneva is a must-visit for politically interested people and for young adults and high-school students preparing for their lives as responsible and informed adults of the world of tomorrow.
In the years of our visits, we experienced varying qualities. From each tour, students could take home a lot of insights, information and impressions. At the same time, information was not always equally easy to take in and absorb: What was always helpful was a good mix of the (invisible) vision and structure of the UN and visible and tangible: e.g. 1. a brief outline on how the UN works and what it can achieve, 2. specific examples of such work and achievements (when this can be combined with attending moments of an ongoing meeting, that's always thrilling!), and 3. explanations on the history and meaning of architectural and artistic elements inside the UN buildings. > We've had this in various forms and mixes, and very often, the tours were experienced as exciting, mind-opening and inspiring - and sometimes, the information was too much and too abstract to absorb, our students feeling rather overwhelmed at the end.
Unfortunately, as a visitor we cannot choose or indirectly steer the focus of our tour, even though we define the nature of our group (tourists, students or school groups, ...) when we register. Therefore: four stars for this mix and qualities of the tours!

Hi, I'm planning to book VIP Pass to UN Building in August, I'll be visiting day after I land in Geneva. Should I have to register myself 3 days before the actual tour takes place? or the registration link that is provided with the confirmation is good enough? any help is appreciated. Thanks.

4) after that, the UN will verify your registration and you shall wait for confirmation email
5) On the day of the tour: arrive 45 min in advance,
at the main entrance (just the opposite of the broken chair statue) you will be greeted by 2 ladies who will be handled your ID to enter.

I attempted to book a tour for 2x individuals on the website but there is no availability in 2023. I can see old reviews which say you can line up on the day. Is that still the case? It looks like you have to book in advance but surely all of 2023 isn’t already booked out! Has anyone had any luck purchasing an individual tour in 2023? What was the process for booking 2022? Thanks!

Hello, I will try to answer. at the UN tour, No Walk In allowed. The people who line up most probably the people who already registered and got the ID. For those without registration, only can see the UN from the main road, from the Broken Chair Statue and most of them taking pictures from outside the fence to the lines of the flags. But not allowed to enter. To get into individual tour is quite a challenge. Surely you can search on UN website, but probably full or else. I did earlier tried the same but with no luck, thats why we booked VIP tour. Hope it helps.

I would like to purchase UN goods (SDG badge, T-shirt, water bottle, etc.) there but have no plan to do a guided-tour, so literally souvenir shopping only.
Would this be a possible option? If there is a way or there is someone who did this before, please advise.
Can I go to the bookshop without booking a tour?

The book shop is in the main building that you go into for the tour. Before you can get there you have to buy a ticket and go through fairly rigorous security so you would not be able to get to the shop without being on the tour.

Hi,
Is there any chance to make sure you can make a visit on a particular day/time? The website says bookings are not possible for individual visitors. We will have just one chance to visit the Palais. What does that look like? Are there many people willing to enter? How much in advance should you show up there to make sure you have a chance to enter? Many thanks for your help!

Hello, I will try to answer.
1) Is there any chance to make sure you can make a visit on a particular day/time? Yes, you book the tour directly on UN Website. You can choose your desired date and time.
2).The website says bookings are not possible for individual visitors: Yes, correct.Previously was possible, but this year 2023 you have to book either in Group or VIP (this VIP up to 5 persons)
3)We will have just one chance to visit the Palais. What does that look like? The Complex is quite huge, with the tour will take approx 1 hour. When we were there we could access 3 buildings, the other 2 were under renovation.
4) Are there many people willing to enter? When I asked the same question to our private guide, she mentioned in a day could be 3-4 schedule of tour.
5)How much in advance should you show up there to make sure you have a chance to enter? 45 minutes at the main entrance.

Thanks Hoikee. I went there and I confirm that the security policies and checks are in place and no place to store luggage available.
There are two two options for luggage storage:one the Geneve airport and one in Gare Cornavin, the latter one being succesfully tested and very handy I’d say!
