no, I wouldn't recommend Lauterbrunnen in October, it's a shaded valley with very limited options for evening. You say 'the hike' from Wengen to Grindelwald Grund - which one would this be, there are numerous options? Try jungfrau.ch and look at hiking, it gives just so many options to choose from.

The Schilthorn is great with fantastic views, but it's a one stop shop. Kleine Scheidegg has more to offer as there's places to eat, drink and the views to the east over Grindelwald and the Wetterhorn are stunning. A short walk (5mins) will take you to Fallbodensee with great reflected views of the aforementioned or in the other direction towards Lauterbrunnen. You also have the imposing Eiger North Face nice and close up. The other main plus that Kleine Scheidegg gives is getting on the train to go further up to Jungfraujoch which, if the cloudbase is high (or very low so you're above the clouds), is not to be missed. I recommend checking the webcam before going, it's updated every 10 minutes: panoramic.skiline.cc/jungfraujoch?cu=en-GB you can select the Lauberhorn webcam which looks down on Kleine Scheidegg too.

I found more info for you: google Wengernalp Railway it provides all the stops - between Wengen and Kleine Sheideigg as well as run frequency and more. This should help. Good news is- you could walk from Wengen to Allmend- short walk, and Allmend is a railway stop- there you will be able to find out if you can go further or take the train up or even a lift! Next stop is quite a bit up hill to Wengernalp before you get to Kleine Sch. Remember you asked to to hike from Wengen to Kleine Sch., that's all UP HILL. Enjoy!

Instead we can recommend a short hike to the Mönchsjoch Hut (45 min. one way), or spending some time in the snow fun park (flying fox, skiing / snowboarding and a sledging park). Hi Kelies2016 Yes it is quite easy. You can also fly to Zurich Airport. It takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to Bern. From Bern you take the train to Interlaken Ost. From Interlaken Ost you take the train to Grindelwald and there you go up by train to Kleine Scheidegg where you will be very close to the Eiger. From Bern to Kleine Scheidegg it takes around 2 hours 15 minutes. There are a few rooms at Kleine Scheidegg and a lot of hotels in Grindelwald.
