Excellent path and trail
Descent from allmendhubel to murren via Sonneberg. Easy to walk along with a 5 year old. Reaches murren station directly.

Beautiful trail with lots of wildflowers and stunning views. Depending on which way you start the beginning can be pretty steep and strenuous, but overall a mild hike for the area. For those with a bee allergy note that there are TONS of bees and other pollinators, but they are not aggressive at all. I was even swatting at them sometimes and they never got aggressive or tried to sting me.

Take a picnic because you don’t want to rush. Time seems to disappear anyway. We met an artist sketching the mountain range opposite.

We did this trail from Allmenhubel to Murren.
The best views, in my opinion, were actually before the trail starts (by the playground).
So try to linger there a bit. Perhaps a sandwich on the bench?
The rest was beautiful as well, but not as dramatic.
After 30-40 minutes of slow walking, there is a cafe with drinks, ice cream and views.
Overall, easy downhill hike.

Like a previous reviewer here, I could not place this review in the proper TripAdvisor location as it does not exist. But we loved this beautiful hike so much, I really wanted to share it with those interested in pretty trails in the Murren area.
We had spent the morning at Schilthorn, took the gondola down to the Murren stop, disembarked to walk the trail down to Gimmelwald, and then took the gondola back up to Murren where we were staying. It was all so easy peasy! I had been a little concerned about the downhill hike due to knee issues, but I had no problems at all. The trail is paved and it is only about a mile and a quarter in length. But, oh, the sights in that mile and a quarter...please see photos! This short trail ended up being a highlight in our 2 week Switzerland visit.
Immediately after exiting the Murren station, the trail heading down was gorgeous: charming Swiss houses with flower boxes and beautiful flowers in the yards. Soon we were looking down into the jaw-dropping beauty of the Lauterbrunnen Valley under gorgeous snow covered Alps. We watched as many paragliders floated down. The trail passed by lush meadows with wildflowers, stands of beautiful green trees and a couple of rushing mountain streams. The Schilthorn gondola passed overhead at one point.
It was interesting reading a sign about the Ogi Mountings, small triangular structures embedded in the hillside to stop avalanches from building up.The rooftops have slide prevention objects, too. Along the way, there was an ancient watering faucet with continuously running cool water falling into an old, hallowed-out log...considerate for hikers, animals and also photo worthy! One farmhouse had an awesome collection of old cowbells lined up on the side of the house. Most fascinating of all was The Honesty Shop along the trail: "Europe's First Unattended Self-Service Village Shop." Inside were many locally made items and souvenirs, and there was an Honest Box to deposit money for your purchase! We then passed a nice little playground on the trail that many children and parents seemed to be enjoying.
I wish reviews could post videos and more than 10 photos because my words cannot describe well how awesome this hike is...highly recommended!

This 2-3 hour hike on a mostly paved trail offers exceptional views of the Monc and Eiger. Lots of wildflowers and friendly people along the way.

First, be aware that Trip Advisor does not list the best hiking trails out of Murren. So, this is the only way I could find to post information about these trails. We spent 5 nights in Murren so that we could do some of the abundant trails available in the area. These are the ones we did which we liked the most. Two begin at Allnendhubel. 1) Hike down to Lauterbrunnen. This yellow marked trail offers views of the valley and its waterfalls. You hike among the cows and the ever present cowbells. Some of it is open meadows and others in the forest. Wonderful views of the snow covered peaks abound. You have 2 options. You can take the longer less steep trail which has less forest coverage but still offers good views. This takes about 3 hours. Or, when getting to the fork for the "mountain trail" (yellow trail marker with a red bar), you can go down the steeper part. This offers more forest coverage, valley views and a crossing of the upper Staubach Falls. By steep, I mean 45 minutes of very steep terrain which I do not recommend if you have bad knees. I'm a regular hiker in the mountains of western NC, but my quads were burning when we got to the bottom. It is totally safe, but steep. This option shortens the hiking time by about 30 minutes. It's well worth it if you're in shape. Return to Murren via cable car/train (the way you most likely arrived in Murren and included on the Swiss Pass). 2) The North Face Trail goes in the opposite direction from the Lauterbrunnen trail. It is 2 1/2 hours of wondering among the cows and snow capped mountain views, and a co-op cheese shop and is more forgiving on the knees and quads than the Lauterbrunnen Trial. There are options to vary the hike as you go, but the trail is well marked with blue "North Face Trail" signage all the way. It enters Murren at the cable car stop. If you are looking for an easy, shorter hike, a 35 minute hike with some good views is simply hiking from Murren to Gimmelwald where you can get cheese and Gimmelwald brewed beer. You can return up the way you came or you can return via the cable car (included on the Swiss Pass).

We used to walk hut to hut in the Alps tackling the steepest trails, scrambling up rocky slopes and enjoying the vistas, the waterfalls and the clean mountain air. But now, being a year away from 80 with one titanium knee and the second one pushing to get replaced, we needed a more sedate experience. Murren, Switzerland was ideal. Although steep trails abound, there are also meandering and often paved trails that provide spectacular views plus an absence of crowds. One, by taking a single cable car up from Murren is called the Mountain View trail. It takes about a half day. The walk down to the tramway back to Murren is a bit steep but doable or, even better, a return walk to the cable car for a second look at the scenery.
Walks along the valley below Murren are also wonderful. There are several magnificent waterfalls to see. The best way down to the valley is to rent a guided paragliding. You will be taken by the waterfalls on your way down.
We have been many places in Switzerland. I rate Murren as one of the best I have hiked and glided in.

Wondering if wildflowers are plentiful in early June or should we make reservations from June 15 onward? Want to avoid July for our 10-day stay due to increasing crowding.

We were there this summer from June 15-29 and saw enough wildflowers to make us happy, but we knew later would have been better for more flowers. However, fewer crowds is more important to us so, except for the record heat wave in Switzerland we experienced this year (and the fact that most hotels have no A/C), those two weeks were a good choice. Have a great time!

Is this and other trails around the Lauterbrunnen Valley doable late September/early October? Also, if there are any recommendations for trails closer/accessible from Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen specifically, that'd be greatly appreciated! We're not very experienced hikers so nothing too intense.

We have been in the area only in June & July, so do not have first-hand experience in later months. We would think that it would be fine in late September/early October, but would suggest that you consult internet weather information and call hotels in the area.
Most of the hiking trails in the Murren area should be no problem for inexperienced hikers.

Hi! Two of us are planning a week-long hiking trip through the Alps, and both the Blumental Panorama Trail as well as the North Face Trail are on our list. I am wondering if A. it is possible to do both of these at the end of April? and B. What we should be prepared for? We have a rental car booked so any advice on where to stay/plan on parking for the hikes would be very helpful!

I do not know what the weather is like at the end of April, we hiked in August. We stayed in Wengen and used the train to get to the start of the hikes. No cars are allowed in Wengen.

Hi, I use Alltrails App to navigate trails. However, I can't find Blumental Panorama Trail in the App. Does Blumental Panorama Trial have another name or this is a new trail that the App has not included it yet?

We will be in Murren next week and are planning our hikes now. My husband sometimes has issues with balance. How is this trail different/unique in terms of your cautionary statements re balance? Is it particularly narrow, is there a drop off on the side, or more rocky and uneven than some of the other trails? Would love your impressions as we would pick a different trail if this one is more perilous than others.
Thanks!

If you are in Murren, there is a nice trail that leads from Murren down to Winteregg, and then Lauterbrunnen that follows the rail line. Its mostly flat and wide, and you can hike as little or as far as you want. The scenery is gorgeous even on this trail/road. If you want to get higher above Murren, take the Allmendhubel-Bahn up to Allmendhubel. From there you can take the road to go to the Blummental valley below where the flowers should still be nice. You can hike down to Murren, but the last part of the paved road is quite steep. You are in the Alps and going any trails out of Murren involve uphill. The Panorama trail might also be good. Get both Walking Trails maps from your hotel or the Murren tourist info center. Both have very good descriptions.
