You have to take a train to Zermatt, as you can not drive into Zermatt. It is car free, which is part of its charm. You can go to information at the train station in Zurich and they can tell you the best way to get there by train, what departure times are and if you need a reservation for the train. There's usually a scenic way (it takes a little bit longer) or you can just take the fastest way. Chances are you'll have to change trains on your journey. The town is very charming with lots of restaurants and shops, and then you should take a separate train up to Gornergrat for a wonderful view of the Matterhorn. The views going up are great, too! Have fun! It's beautiful. Oh, and if you're not familiar with the trains in Switzerland, information can print your tickets in English and tell you how to read them so you'll know which platforms you need to go to when you change trains. That was very helpful for us. Hope this helps some.

Hope you had a good ski lesson on the glacier but I would not ordinarily recommend Zermatt for beginners in winter season

Hi Stacey. Thanks for your message. If you are beginner skiers, then you will be taking the Sunnegga train to get to the ski area. You could look for accommodation near the Sunnegga base station. Or if you are staying further away, you can use the little electric taxis in Zermatt to get around, they are about 10-15chf a ride to get around in town. Your instructor will be happy to meet you at your accommodation and help you get to the ski slopes in the morning if wished. I hope this is helpful, just let us know any other questions.
