Gardens superb cafes overpriced and low quality

Gardens superb Cafes/restaurant not so…
We had a lovely wander round the gardens with a lot of spring flowers out with the promise of more to come.
However, the cafes leave a lot to be desired quality wise. Coffee lukewarm, not a very good quality, and cup only 2/3 full. Soup lukewarm and bread stale. Sandwich similarly bread very dry and a day old by date. An expensive mistake ie soup+bread+tea+coffee = £16 - we’ll bring our own next time.

Went to The Terrace restaurant….22/3/23..
Worse meal and service we have ever had…..in years.
It was for my 80th, friend was treating me..
We waited 10 minutes just to sit down cause Andre was busy..
We both had mackerel starter, things were missing off the plate..mackerel if you could
Find it…was table spoon.
Then waited 1 hour half for main meal…call Andre twice and waiter….new menu, so
Hard work for the chief…..couldn’t cope.
Got main meals…not potatoes, on one plate, chicken dry, yesterday’s old.
No bacon. Parmesan cheese….On Caesar salad. Just a whole breast chicken. Few
Gem lettuce leaves..
Andre said he told us …it be late to get our meal….which he didn’t…..
Some many people, waited even longer than us….2 course £28.00 per person….wine £33.00 a bottle…..and service on top…don’t think so….
I wouldn’t say to any person to go there.
RHS…don’t think so….

Not worth visiting if you want food or drinks

The Alpine house was wonderful as always but the catering was terrible, of my four &half hours there I must have spent over one &half hours queueing for firstly coffee
(we had had an over 2 hour journey by coach) then for a terrible lunch, the catering at Wisley used to be very good now it's so crowded and slow I can no longer look forward to my days at Wisley.

Disappointed with Catering

Visited the Gardens, really lovely with Crocus, daffodils - a delight. Very disappointed with the Glasshouse cafe for lunch. I am gluten intolerant and only GF food available was soup £5.90 with which I was offered 2 slices of very cold GF brown bread, asked for it to be toasted & told they were unable to do that. Small flat wooden spoon to eat soup from carton - ridiculous. There was 1 GF chicken £5.95 & 1 GF cheese sandwich only left (at 1.15pm), or a tiny jkt potato that would not have fed a child and a long long queue with only 2 people serving. Husband had a Pepperoni Pizza which was in a sealed box, upon opening it was a third of the size of the box.£10.60 with a couple of cans of ginger beer the total was £34.75. Very expensive. Dirty tables too. Called into the Food Hall on way to exit to find if they had more choice, no they didn't. Wisley you have more choice for Vegans which is a life choice - being gluten intolerant is not a choice. You can do better - you know you can!

Gardens amazing cafe awful

Glasshouse cafe was busy at 1pm with only one member of staff serving and long queues. Soup was warm when collected and cold on arrival at sole service point. Till closed, tables dirty and absurd wooden spoons only for soup. My disabled mum really struggled. Gardens always fantastic but RHS really needs to up its game on the catering side.

A Deep Dive adventure

Carpets of colourful crocuses, Dancing Hares by Sophie Ryder and a Deep Sea Dive were a splendour to behold when we visited at the end of February.

We wanted to see inside RHS Hilltop, the Home of Gardening Science and centre of horticultural excellence as we had not visited on previous occasions. It was opened on 24 June 2021 and has great panoramic views from on top of the Sky Terrace with its adjoining restaurant.
The atrium is host to a permanent exhibition which demonstrates the benefits of gardens for wellbeing as well as giving tips for creating garden spaces. Showcases display interactive exhibits showing research and world-class collections.
Visitors are able to see herbarium specialists at work preparing specimens and there are opportunities to see collections and scientific laboratories. (You may have to book for laboratory viewing - not sure)?

Then, making our way over to the Glasshouse to see the 'Deep Sea Dive' exhibition, we encountered some wonderful dancing hares located by the lake.

Step into the glasshouse and you enter a nautical adventure as you are transported to a colourful reef below the surface of the sea. There is a sea arch, shipwreck, lighthouse island,sunken boat, Palm island and a Whale Fluke.
There is also fun for the children with an activity booklet.

So pleased we visited.

Enjoyable afternoon

Beautiful gardens even though it's only early March.
Only given four stars because we wasted a long time trying to find the electric car charging bays. Better signage and slightly wider spaces please! Cafe was a little disappointing too.
The gardens are gorgeous, a credit to all those who work on them. Impressive display of early spring colour. The shop is expensive but good quality. We bought some very healthy looking plants! The staff were helpful and friendly.
Enjoyable afternoon.

Four hours was not enough time!

Despite being early March, overcast and with a chilly breeze, this visit was memorable. The glasshouse had and “ underwater reef” display with tropical plants representing soft and hard corals, very colourful. Then the different climate zones.
Outside, the displays were equally fascinating, even down to a series of displays of plants growing in cracks and between stacked slates.
I look forward to visiting again at different times of the year.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit

This was our first visit to Wisley, despite being RHS members for some time. Although the weather was cold, we wrapped up and enjoyed walking around admiring the winter colour and the garden’s bare bones. Clever, thoughtful planting everywhere and all very well maintained. The house plant exhibition in the glasshouse was impressive too. Excellent coffee at the glasshouse cafe. A well stocked shop with high quality gifts. We look forward to returning at a different time of year.

Wonderful Wisley does it again, and let's hear it for the volunteers!

A friend and I visited the excellent current Glasshouse exhibition, "Houseplant Takeover, Deep Sea Dive," and were very impressed with the thought and creativity that had gone into it - not to mention the sheer hard graft. In fact, we thought it so interesting and eye-catching, we went around it twice!
I would like to take this opportunity to praise the volunteers at Wisley. Every time I visit, at any time of the year, they are beavering away in the grounds, planting and maintaining everything to perfection. I'm sure Wisley would look very different indeed without their combined efforts. (This applies to so many other places I visit, too. This country is run on volunteers!)
Praise, too, for the well-stocked and attractive houseplants and garden plants areas, with their tempting displays.
I'm already looking forward to my next visit!
