This church is part of the beautiful landscape of Dinant. Iconic, with the citadel behind it and its Gothic exterior, the interior surprises with its beauty and vivacity, contrary to what would be the expectations of a Gothic-style church.

Beautiful provincial city of Belgium. The impressive church and the castle in the mountain steal impressions in this quiet little town. 1.30 hours by bus from Brussels!

Die Kirche Notre-Dame wurde als romanische Basilika 1227 erbaut. Nachdem die Kirche durch einen herabstürzenden Felsen zerstört wurde, erfolgte der Neubau im frühgotischen Stil im 13. Jh. Der Mittelturm (in Birnenform) wurde 1566 gebaut. Von Innen ist die Kirche interessant mit Retabel, schönen Kirchenfenstern, Statuen und Osterleuchtern.
Wir legten einen zweistündigen Stopp in Dinant ein, während unserer Fahrt von Brügge nach Luxembourg. Das Ufer ist von Restaurants und einigen Cafés gesäumt. Die Stadt liegt wunderbar an der Maas und vor dem Felsmassiv – sehr eindrucksvoll.

A place to visit, just like churches, its ornaments, its statues, but especially its superb stained glass windows are unmissable.

The Church is right in the center of Dinant - right next to the Citadel entrance. It’s beautiful! Definitely worth a quick stop and make sure you take a picture from across the bridge!

The Notre Dame collegiate church is in the heart of Dinant and close to the Meuse. The stained glass windows are truly beautiful and majestic.

Dinant was a pleasant discovery, a charming and particular town. The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame, whose "Gothic" exterior did not give us much hope, inside turned out to be very elegant, even grandiose.

It remains beautiful to see and know history
General. The collegiate church is typical of Dinant and has become the symbol of the city due to its special pear-shaped spire. It is almost completely built against the underlying rocks, something that had dramatic consequences in the 13th century when a piece of the rock fell on the building.
Particularities. The spire makes this church very exceptional in design. Inside, you immediately notice the Ladon stained glass window, which is one of the largest in Europe. The bust of Saint Perpetuus is a gem. According to legend, this saint died in Dinant in 617. His relics were kept in a shrine in the church. During the sack of Dinant in 1466, they were captured and taken to nearby but hostile Bouvignes. They were later returned, but the reliquary would later be lost. However, the beautiful bust can still be admired and has been given a prominent place in the church.
History in brief. There was already a Romanesque church on this site in the 10th century. However, this church was destroyed in 1228 when a piece of the underlying rock came loose and landed on the building. The church was rebuilt in Gothic style but was not completed until the 15th century. During the sack of the city by the Duke of Burgundy in 1466, the church was seriously damaged and had to be repaired. This happened again in 1554, this time by a French siege. It was not until 1566 that the typical pear-shaped spire was placed on the tower. It was originally intended for the then town hall that was built on the bridge over the Maas. During the First World War the church was damaged one last time and had to be restored again.

Pour les visites il faut se renseigner à l’office qui est au pied du funiculaire
