Uma das cidades mais antigas de Portugal. Foi reconquistada definitivamente aos Mouros em 1246.Vale a pena passear pelas suas ruas e conhecer o castelo e a catedral.

Went here for a stop-off on the way to Monchique courtesy of Coast and Country Tours from Albufeira.
Nice little town, interesting Moorish castle and a cathedral.
Nice bar next to the castle for refreshments, but despite the number of tourists (not too many as it was quite early - 10am maybe) most of the bars and cafés seemed to be about 90% local which was good to see.
Shame we weren't able to visit the medieval festival they were setting up - our departure date was before the festival began.

Bonita perspetiva que se tem da cidade quando chegamos a Silves, depois de sair da A22, com o castelo em destaque. Já há vários anos que não a visitava e gostei de imagem que agora guardo na memória.
Apesar de não ter uma grande área junto ao mar, o município de Silves tem na História do Algarve o seu ponto forte.
No município destaco a sede de concelho e Armação de Pera: cultura e lazer.

Aside from the obvious castle visit and fascinating central museum (both worth a visit) the greater Silves area is full of interesting hikes. In the valley north there are standing stones, graves carved into the rock and ancient csrnes. It's an absolutely beautiful area, and of course after a day having adventures you can have a dinner or a drink in one of the many cafes that spring up all over town.
I recommend the sushi place down by the main town square, basic decor but the food is amazing!

Siamo venuti qui principalmente per vedere il museo archeologico, ma il paese è carino ed accogliente, con tanti locali. Molto frequentato dai turisti in estate.

This beautiful and historic town makes for a nice day trip and break from the beach life, it's interesting to walk around the cobblestone streets, visit the cathedral and castle, though be aware, it's kind of steep at times!

This town is a bit inland from the coast but it is worth taking the time to visit. It is clean and beautiful with many cobbled streets, a lovely little church and an imposing castle overlooking the town.
Many of the buildings are very old and interesting and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to chill out in, all of which provides a typically relaxed Portuguese atmosphere.

Silves est une bonne destination pour faire un peu de visite en Algarve. Nous avons fait le château et le musée et c'était très bien.

Narrow alleyways with several bars and restaurants but the best part are the storks. Lots and lots of them can be found in Silves. All you need is to listen out for the bill clattering and you will see them.
