I wanted to point out that this seller failed to put an item in my bag and I really think that this gesture must be repeated very regularly towards tourists.

There were 3 of us that stopped at this great little shop after a tour of Sao Miguel. This shop was well known by our tour guide and he recommended several cheeses that the shop was known for. We tasted a number of cheese, and purchased 2 wedges which the shop kindly vacuum packed for our travel. I also purchased a bottle of 20 year Port that cost less than 2 glasses of a similar aged Port back home in the US. When you visit this shop, be sure to ask how it got its name.

... aqui tudo o que procura dos Açores. Até de outras ilhas. A preços muito mais baixos do que nas lojas normais ou até dos supermercados, como por exemplo os rebuçados (quase metade do preço).
Mas, obviamente, que o negócio principal são os queijos da ilha.

We did a tasting of various cheeses, which was very interesting. We tasted 36 months of cheese from S Jorge, and from other Azorean islands.
The service was very welcoming and professional. We bought various cheeses, liquors and sweets.

O local já se torna pequeno para tanta maravilha gastronómica. Apesar de terem muitos clientes, dão toda a atenção necessária a cada cliente sem pressas. Recomendam os melhores queijos, dão a provar etc... deram me um mimo no final da compra por ter ultrapassado um valor ( penso eu ). Estão bem informados do que passa ou não na bagagem de mão (de voo), o que nos facilita e evita constrangimentos na hora da viagem.

No idea of what to bring Dad? OMG. Forget your pater, you’ll have chowed it down before you get home. Actually, just buy double, you can afford it. I went in at the recommendation of our tour guide (it translates to “Princes of Cheeses”). Five euros for a round of mild cheese that melts in your mouth. The men behind the counter spoke little English (mild?) but we got enough across and they gave me samples to try. Holy cow.
Suggestion: Keep the cheese in your fridge (despite what you’re told about no refrigeration necessary) then take it out to fly home, and refrigerate again when you get back. If it survives that long, because you’ll be wanting to eat that sucker. YUM.
