La porta di accesso alla città vecchia era parte delle mura moresche come dice il nome. Da notare, scendendo dalla cattedrale, anche mura più antiche che ci dicono essere un criptoportico di epoca romana. Da notare anche l’altra porta che si incontra poco a valle.

Porta and Torre de Almedina is the main access to the historic city of Coimbra. The tower, one of the most imposing of the walls, ensured the defense of this narrow access. This gate is sometimes confused with the Porta da Barbacã, which is instead part of a second wall built to improve the defendability of the city.

Torre de Almedina is the only left town gate out of three from the medieval era.
You're sure to pass it when going to/from the University square. It's an arched gate set between houses on an extremely steep street - just a pass by attraction.

Da questo arco e torre entrerai nella città vecchia e ti troverai nella zona più affascinante di Coimbra, dove troverai caffè arroccati su ripidi gradini e l'antica cattedrale. Da vedere.

A Torre de Almedina é um dos acessos para a cidade murada e data do século XI. Atualmente abriga o Núcleo da Cidade muralhada e é possível visitar. Está bem preservada.

At this arch and tower you will enter the old town and be in the most charming area of Coimbra where you will find cafes perched on steep steps, a Fado parlor, and the old cathedral. Must see.

Vale a pena passar pela Torre de Almedina e ver a tradição e o fado das ruas da bela cidade dos estudantes. É sempre um gosto lá passar e assim, "abraçar" Coimbra. Recomendo.

Is it easy to park outside the city close to the centre? Is there free parking? Kindly provide direction for parking in Coimbra.

It is hard to find free parking sites close to Coimbra's city centre. However the parking prices are acceptable and to park near Ponte de Santa Clara seems to be the best solution to visit Coimbra's centre.
