There are a few chapels that are traced to the monastery, and that were not finished because those who were doing it had to go make jeronimos. It was a pity they weren't finished but they're still pretty. With the biggest roof in the world.

There is no denying the architecture of York, England; the cloister and garden are very similar. Interesting royal tombs and entry into the unfinished chapel is incredible!

Many European monasteries and cathedrals took centuries to complete, but I can’t recall visiting a functioning church that has incomplete chapels like this. They are well worth seeing. With the passage of time, and the royal decision to bury kings in Lisbon’s Sao Jeronimos Monastery, there was no longer a need for tombs here. There were a few burials but the roof is open to the elements and it’s uniquely interesting.

To access the imperfect chapels, you must pay to visit the interior of the monastery. These chapels were not completed because the workers were directed to build the Jerónimos monastery in Lisbon. Still, a wealth of details allows you to learn a little about Portuguese history.

This was originally intended to be an entrance to the the Monastery but was not finished as the funds were diverted to build a monastery in Lisbon. Nevertheless, what we have of it is very impressive with intricate carvings, various gargoyles, and ornate columns. It has all the ornate decoration that seems missing from the main monastery. Take the time to look closely at the carvings. Definitely see this as part of your visit to the monastery.

Accanto al monastero di Batalha sorge questo mausoleo a pianta ottagonale che ha avuto una storia travagliata rimanendo incompiuto. A una base gotica si sovrappone una ricca decorazione manuelina e in alto manca la copertura rendendo il tutto molto suggestivo in una bella giornata di sole di Aprile.

Included in the site ticket you leave the complex and enter from a separate entrance. Huge pylon like pillars support the structure which give the structure a unique aspect. The unfinished structure is essentially a courtyard open to the skies. The dense, Manueline carvings are wonderful to behold.
